Had 1st fill yesterday--questions

Hi--I had my first fill yesterday, and I have a few questions. How do I know if I was filled enough? I thought I would feel really tight, and not be able to eat much, but I kind of feel the same way I did before the fill. I guess I figured I would go back to getting full on 1/4 cup of food, but I am able to eat more than that--is that normal? He did tell me that if I thought I needed more, to just call back, and he'd put more in, but I'm not sure how much time to give it. By the way, does anyone else's doctor do their fills with them sitting up and sipping water? It was a trip!

Yep, It is a trip getting your first fill. My doc said the first fill is like a primer and most gets absorbed into the band. I didn't feel alot of restriction either. I'm getting my 3rd fill this week. Hope to feel more restriction. It's strange cause sometimes its tight and at times i don't feel much restriction at all. Everyone is different tho. My doc makes me lie down and then sit up once the needle is in then take drinks of water until I gurgle............you too? :speechles

Yeah, he put in the entire syringe of saline, then had me drink some water. It would barely go down, so then he starts taking some out, and drinking water until it feels like it is going down without any problems. He only ended up putting in .6cc though, in my 10cc band. It is really hard to judge though. I have still been able to eat whatever I want, as fast as I want, so I don't think he put enough in--that's why I'm going back for another fill tomorrow. I know I should feel more restriction than this. In the middle of the night I woke up with the most horrible hunger pains, and had to get up and eat something! THat has not happened to me before--really weird. Anyway, I hope I feel better after tomorrow!

I go in for my 3rd fill in 2 days. I can't wait until I find my sweet spot. It is a weird process tho. I agree with you....sometimes i feel so much restriction then the next day i Feel no restriction. Oh well, as long as the weight drops off slowly but surely I'm happy..

My first fill didn't really give me much restriction. I should have gone back within 3-4 weeks b/c when I went back most of the fill was gone (absorbed). The second fill held, but still not much restriction. My 3rd fill finally resulted in restriction and I have been good with it for a couple of months. I don't plan to go back for another for a while. I think I am probably at my sweet spot.

I had my surgery June 26, 2007 and just had my first fill ysterday August 14th. I didn't eat all day and most of today. I finally had a rye cracker with hummus, it went down well and I am feeling good. I too want to know if I am going to feel this full sensation. I am down 33 lbs in 7 weeks but I was commited to eating about 7-800 calories a day. I do notice I've not been able to drink all of my protein shake. I can't wait to have some refried beans, I live on them. Before my fill I could easily eat a 1/2 cup of beans and a whole chicken breast. I pray I won't be able to eat that much for some time yet. My Dr. put 3 or 4 cc's in me and my band holds 12.

It often takes a week or so for the restriction to kick in. I think most doctors wait about 3 weeks before they do a second fill. I have a 10cc band...my first fill was 3.5cc, got that amount again in 3 weeks and didn't need another one for about 6 months and then just a small amount. But everyone is different.

I'm on my 3rd fill now and I am just shy of my sweet spot. I think I am really really close and may just need to be "topped off" here in a few weeks. The first two fills did basically nothing for me....but after reading all the posts I wasn't surprised.
