Anyone Else Not Have To Do a Pre-op Diet?

I had my seminar last night and my surgeon said he does not require a pre-op diet unless your current weight is very high and would complicate surgery. I see most people on here have to do it and I was just wondering if anyone else does not have to.

As it was explained to me, the two week pre-op diet is there to shrink the size of your liver, which because of its location, can make the procedure more difficult. The liver lies on top of your stomach so it needs to be lifted and moved out of the way. They say that in some cases, the operation has to be aborted if they see that the liver is not in the right condition for the procedure. Clear liquids the two days before are just so your stomach is completely empty before surgery. I'm surprised to hear the difference of opinion on this! You would think these things are non negotiable.

I had a 12 day liquid pr-op diet and it had many good benefits. It allowed me time

to slow down my mind and mentally prepare for this unreversable purcedure.

With the livers quality improving was a safer surgery. If the simple requirements of

this prep is so horrible how will you feel when you have no choice. I think you willingly

accepting this immediately give you power to start your journey inpowered.

I did it and now 11 days post op and down 30 pounds.

My BMI was 47
