How long should my husband take off of work to help me after surgery?

A day or two, max. I was fine to be alone the day I came home from the hospital. You can walk the stairs, you can get up to use the bathroom without assistance and you should be walking as much as possible, so there is no reason to have someone at home unless you need to take painkillers and you have to drive somewhere.

As ever, everyone's body is different. It may be a day or two, it may be longer depending on how your body reacts to surgery etc.

I was looking after myself fine during the day when I got home but having someone around was nice, especially on day 4 when I got hormonal and weepy. If he takes more days and you don't need him, can he go back to work? Better that than sitting alone needing help or support :-)

My husband is taking a week off. I know that I will be able to care for myself, but he will be here helping get the kids to and from school the first few days. He can always go back to work if he needs too. But he decided to put in for a week just in case he was needed here more than we anticipate.

I didn't need any help after surgery other than someone to take the trash to the street, change the kitty litter, and do the heavier, once-a-week type of house keeping, such as mopping and vacuuming. I don't live with anyone so my extra help was having my housekeeper come for an extra visit. I didn't need anyone hanging around full-time to help me and probably would have found it annoying.

My doctor also encourages people to do as much as they can for themselves. He says, don't let anyone else fix your drinks, answer the door, or take the dog for a walk. Getting up and active will help people with their recovery -- within limits of course! You don't want to do stuff that could actually end up hurting you.

Mine took off two days. Day of surgery and day after.

I had pain pills and he brought me broth in a thermos the morning he went back to work.

All I did was sleep, sip, and shuffle around the house.

To me it was very helpful to have my husband by my side, is less pain to get a helping hand to stand up to go to the bathroom, I was in so much pain that I really need it his help, he took a week off by my request :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
