Lower joint weakness/pain since surgery?

Recommended Posts

So here's an odd one:

I didn't have any issues with my knees or ankles prior to surgery; I could walk, climb stairs, etc. with no problems. I'm 7 weeks out from surgery, and for the last few days or so, I've been having some aches in my knees and ankles and they don't feel very stable when walking long distances, climbing stairs, etc. I'm stumped.

Anyone else experience this? Any ideas?

Mine was my left hip...and it happened about six weeks it got so had I had X-rays and everything! I just knew my hip was falling out of the socket :P

Nope all looked good.

After doing some research here I noticed it happened to a lot of people in about the same time frame! I read and think its because of the weight we've lost and our body posture is changing so things are shifting and we get sore spots? Well something like that anyway :D

Mine lasted about a month then just like that it was gone!

As usual, Laura-Ven to the rescue!! :) Thanks for letting me know I'm not crazy. I seriously felt like my knees were turning to Jello earlier today, and my coworkers were laughing at me because I was stopping every few steps to bend and flex my legs. My knees felt like they were going to pop out of place or something...so odd. At any rate, I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and see how it goes :)

My chiro said this is normal in weightloss. I recommend going to a chiro to be adjusted, things are shifting in our body. there are all sorts of chiros out there so make sure it's one that isn't just adjust and go, rather someone that listens to you and really evaluates your movements and functions. Good luck

I love this forum, I woke up this sunday with hip pain so bad I limped. I never have pain in my hips. I was so worried. Now I know what is going on and don't ahve to see my Dr. Thank you, everyone.

OMG, I thought I was going crazy! I am almost 6 weeks out and for the last week or so my left hip has been hurting when I walk and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. The idea of my posture changing didn't even occur to me. Thanks Laura-Ven! :)

Whew - these are all a relief to read...I started the hip pain in both hips a few days ago, making me limpy (and the reason I hopped back on VST for the first time in a while to see if this was normal). I was baffled, as I always thought losing weight would take pressure off my joints, not cause pain! But that makes sense about different postures, walking differently, etc. But ouch! Hoping it goes away soon for everyone!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
