Long term prognosis

She said her overall habits are healthy. I don't see why eating in moderation is bad? You can eat all of those things in balance and maintain. Its what people who never had a weight problem do every day.

Yes my dear onward and upward!

And on that note..

I really liked the Sharma article. It really puts it into perspective. This is about health. And losing even just a little bit of weight in the beginning I was able to get off of high blood pressure meds!

That's a goal! One that I'm going to work hard at, so as to never go back :)

The key word is people who have never had a problem with weight do. We are over weight because we can't do this. We are fooling ourselves if we believe we can eat high calorie foods in moderation. At least this holds true for me. One bite and I want more and it plagues my mind like a disease. The majority of us here are food addicts. we love food and for me, there is no moderation. Believe me, I have tried. So I chose to eat healthy and skip the unhealthy foods.....

The OP is around a year out and if she can maintain her weight eating like she is, then I want to see pics of her at 2, 3, 5 and 10 years out. I'd be totally happy for her. But we all chose our foods and what we want in life. this is the hard part of the journey.... :P

Speak for yourself then because your applying your personal issues with food to everyone. I eat in moderation and track everything. I got this surgery to regain a normal relationship with food. I can measure out an ounce of chips and be satisfied half way through and put the remainder back in the bag.

Avoidance does not resolve the problem. If eating one "bad" thing (and I put that in quotes because I don't really believe in bad anymore) sends someone on a binge then they really haven't done the mental work needed for continued success imo. That is where the failure rates come into play.

Eta and why do you need to see her pics at 3, 5, 10 years out? Your underlying assumption is that she will fail for not following your plan. Frankly, that's a pretty catty statement.

You yourself said you didn't bother to read the thread.. And with that I would say please find a thread that interests you enough to read so you can understand what was being discussed and reply to that one...

And furthermore it had nothing to do with anybody eating in moderation!

It had to do with the foul delivery and Belittling those of us that enjoy being here and taking part in productive conversation..

So please let's go back to the ORIGINAL TOPIC!

I read the OP and about the first three or four pages and things started turning to eating habits. My original comment was directed to the OP, which discussed long term results, particularly in regards to the approximately 30% failure rate.

My subsequent posts are directly related to that in that if people think that the sleeve and sleeve diet is a miracle and are unwilling to do the background research and mental work necessary for long term success, there will be failure. This 30% for new sleevers and 50% for secondary bariatric surgery reflects this. I think these subsections are not failures of the surgeries themselves (exception is the band) but failure of the person to do the work necessary to make it a success. I see people doing crazy 0 carbs diets, etc. to lose lose lose as fast as they can and that is not maintainable long term. How is that any different than the dieting cycle we were all on before? It sets people up for failure because they are not using their healing time to actually learn how to eat and maintain a healthy lifestyle long term.

I did not think that I had deviated from the topic and it was not meant to be offensive, just one perspective. When I say I eat what I want, it is in moderation. I did not intend to be insulting. Just sharing my thoughts. Yes, I did read the thread. I said I don't come to the forum much anymore. There is a whole new, incredibly wonderful world out there. And just because I don't only say things that are safe that the majority here might agree with does not mean that it does not have value, that I am ignorant or evil.

It wasn't personal or meant as a put down. It was just my thoughts and I doubt I'm the only one who has had similar ones. I was addicted to this forum for six months. Yes, there is a lot of value here. But it can be very repetitive. There is a great, big, wonderful new world out there to embrace, so I don't come a lot anymore. I never said anyone was dumb.

I almost never read these forums anymore. They are tedious and repetitive and full of misinformation.

I totally agree with my surgeon that most if what is posted is hearsay.

Chill out.

I think these are the comments that people found offensive, especially since you followed the last one with a word most of us don't wish to be associated with (and which was later edited out for that very reason). To claim you don't think what you said was offensive is disingenuous in my opinion.

Actually....the provocation to binge after eating particular types of food can very much be a caused by a biological chemical reaction (blood sugar/insulin) and not just because someone has mental issues. It can be one or the other or a combination of the 2.

I never binge. And the "offensive" word/ connotation I used was a very common term used in these forums months ago in reference to intolerance and idealistic practices.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
