Insurance Requirments

Recommended Posts

MrsAnders I see my surgeon for the first time on August 22 also. My insurance does not require the diet either. I have a 42 BMI with no Comorbidities (that I'm aware of) but i do have to show that I've had a BMI of 30 or greater for the last 5 years. That's the part that scares me. I avoid the doctor because of my weight so I only have weights from April 2006' date=' May of 2009, February 2010, April 2011, that are from a doctors office. I have photo documentation for all years but really worried it won't be sufficient.

IF they think all this is order they will give me a surgery date on the 22nd. She said about 6 weeks out.

I'm sweating here though[/quote']

I don't blame you for being worried. I would be too bc you know how insurance companies can be. Just continue to think positive and I believe the outcome will be positive. My biggest worry is the portion of the surgery I will be responsible for. My insurance will pay 80% and I'm responsible for the other 20%. I won't know until the 22nd how much that will be. Good luck on your endeavor! :)

I'm trying to stay positive. I understand your worry also. I will have to come up with a maximum of $2500 so not to bad. It was a relief when the bariatric center coordinator informed me of that

No diet or waiting requirement for me. Just had to complete all required specialists visits & screening. My journey started in July & had my surgery Nov 7th. Once I got the surgery date scheduled, I only had to do the 10 pre-op diet.

I go for my seminar on the 22nd. I have Blue Cross of NC, and their 2013 review for the weightloss surgeries, it doesn't mention the 6 month diet (I think they recently removed it bc I checked a year ago and it was there. The lady with the Duke Weightloss Center said I had "the good insurance" because most others require a lot more paperwork. That made me feel a lot better! I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2005, so I don't know if they can use that or not (had issues with my stomach when I was 18).

But good luck! Everything will go well I'm sure of it!

That is awesome if they removed the diet plan. It's always seems crazy to me that they had rather pay for all the stuff that comes along with being obese than pay for one surgery.

I suspect because they think some people won't make it through the six month period and then they wind up not having to pay. It's a gamble they are willing to take.

That makes sense Mfs. But for the people that are willing to take this serious and commit to a different life style it really sucks!

I don't doubt that for a second! I would love to see statistics of the success rate of people who have to do these multi-month programs. I think for everyone who hates to have to go through the insurance hoops there's someone else who wishes their insurance covered it so they had hoops to jump through too.

All I know is that after researching WLS like mad, and especially after spending endless hours here, I want to bop anybody who says having WLS is the "easy way out." I don't care if you're going the insurance route, the self-pay route - this is a hard process regardless of how you pay for stuff.

I was worried about that too, that's what my insurance wants as well. no diet but 5yr weight history! I also avoided doctors but I was told by surgeons office that any documented weight history is fine, weigh watchers, they gym, any will do and all you need is one for each year. I was pregnant in 2008-2009 but I still used my pregnancy weight history which actually helps..lol good luck, I hope the best for ya!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
