So I'm almost 4 months out but the Hair loss started about a month ago. It was so bad that I got my hair chopped off to a pixie-like cut so at least I would lose shorter strands. Now I'm starting to get very noticeable thinning spots on the hair line by my forehead. I'm eating 80-100 g of Protein a day, taking my Vitamins and Biotin, getting my Water in, etc. My MIL is actually sending me a special Shampoo that's suppose to help.

Anyways, I know it's not abnormal to lose hair but I was curious if anyone knew a time frame as to how long it should last. Parts of my scalp is actually sore like I had it in a tight pony tail all day long.

I'm the same, I am four months out as well and mine started about a month ago and I also got my hair cut short. I use Bosely products, and take 10,000 mg of Biotin with keratin. From what I've heard, is everyone is different but it seems like most say it starts to change around 6 months. I think as we start to lose less rapidly it starts to taper off. At least I hope. My hair was thinning to begin with so..it hasn't been fun!

I expect mine to start any day now. . . I'm just over 11 wks out....I know it's inevitable.

In addition to all the things you listed to help lessen the Hair loss, I've also heard people talk about a product called toppik, whcih I intend to use when it's time. It's on Amazon and I think Sally has it too (no Sally's where I live unfortunately) They also have their own website toppik.com I think. ANYways, it's a "hair fiber" that you put at the roots of your hair & it kind of disguises the thinning. Comes in a bunch of colors. And it washes out. I have lots of hair now, and I know it will be a shock when it starts thinning. The second I see my scalp I'm going to try that stuff!

Are any of you drinking the Premier Protein shakes by chance? I was told that if I lose hair it's because I'm not getting enough nutrients and that drinking the Premier may help prevent that. Please let me know as I am only 2 days out.

you are going thru the NORMAL stages. Just remember what falls out,, will come back... just be patient, and remember that you notice the hair loss where others will not. Don't fret about it. I was reading the other day somewhere where you can now buy hair Fiber to put in your hair, it is really fibers that stick to your hair and make it look fuller, I have not researched it.

Scottsgirl, I have drank premier Protein from day one, Yes I still lost hair, but it has all grown back and if I could I would give anyone half of mine I have very thick hair. I do think it helps because of the nutrients and Protein. I recommend it over any other out there, just because I also like the taste of it.

Best of luck to all of you!

It IS totally normal, and it WILL stop. From what I hear (and my doctor agrees), you can do all of the Protein and Vitamins in the world, and it will still probably fall out. They say it is because your body is going through such a radical change/adjustment. Once the rapid weight loss slows down, so will the Hair loss. In the mean time, I am just buying cute hats. :)

I've heard the exact same thing...your hair will likely fall out no matter what you try. Hey, if Beyonce can chop all her hair off, so can I. :)

My SIL has been losing a lot of her hair and she's lost a lot of weight with diet and exercise (no surgery). It scared her so bad she went to the Dr who said its completely normal and it's a shock to the body just like having a baby - it's hormones. I am losing mine to (4.5 months post op) and cut mine to.

My only lasted about 2 months and then stopped. I agree with the above person about losing because of weight loss. I have had quite a few surgeries in my life time and this is the only time my hair fell out.

I am not cutting my long hair, and losing it rapidly, however, I had the thickest hair before, so it's much more manageable now. So far, I don't have any spots that are noticeable.

I am also having a sore scalp, as if it was worn tight all day. Weird!

I've been losing hair since week 8 and I'm almost 16 weeks out. Im hoping i have made it At least halfway thru this Hair loss stage. It's hard to imagine that i still have hair left to fall out. Ive been in a stall for 5/6 weeks now and I've also noticed that my hair isn't growing either. Not sure any of it is connected of course! But I normally can only go about 5 weeks in between coloring my hair from root growth. My last color was 6 weeks ago and no roots showing. Oh and I went ahead and cut mine too- I just did it since I figured it grows so fast and here it is not growing!

I've been putting collagen in my Protein Shake and I've noticed the Hair loss has slowed down. I'm 3 1\2 months out.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
