When anyone Had the steri strips did they ever get bloody? And did you take your bandaids off them? I took off the bandaids after I took a shower for the first time so they didn't get all wet and gross. The one that's the ugliest is where they took my stomach. Just dried blood around it but just wondering thanks!

Yeah. I'm 11 days out and they're still on and are basically coated in dried blood. I kept them covered with waterproof bandages for the first week, just to protect them, but it turns out I'm allergic to the adhesive on the bandaids I used. (I was wondering why I was so itchy...) Ugly, but as they should be, it sounds.

I did the same thing for two weeks. Ended up causing sores worse than my incisions. Hah! Only took about a week to get better but shees. Mine came off one at a time, the last at almost three weeks.

Glad I'm not the only one! The scabby rectangles around my incisions almost look worse than the incisions themselves! At least they don't itch anymore... :-)

The pain meds can definitely make your whole body itch. I also have that problem in addition to the itchy steri-strips. Try some liquid Benadryl. It helps some. But be careful because it can make you drowsy and if the pain meds do the same thing it might be too much. Maybe talk to your Dr or pharmacist first. But, if you're like me and the pain meds have no effect on you then you're probably safe. Still talk to your Dr or pharmacist first. :-P

I'm 6 weeks out and my belly button incision is still painful at times. It looked the worst right after surgery and I didn't take the bandage off of that one til about 3 weeks after surgery because it was too sensitive until then.

Had to share this!

Went to see my surgeon for follow up today and as he is examining my belly I hear and feel this rrrriiiiippppp! He pulled the steri-strips off!!!!!

Shocked the heck out of me and it kinda smarted a bit, I had to laugh after though because of this thread.

I did learn something valuable

Once they come off get that sticky residue off of your skin ASAP. I left the docs office and went home. Shortly thereafter I went to adjust my running pants and......they were STUCK TO MY INCISIONS! Yowzah!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
