Weather and hunger

Recommended Posts

I do not know about you, but does rain and gloomy weather make you hungry? It is almost bringing out the SAD in the middle of summer. Up here in Seattle, WA we have had awesome weather (best in the country) from mid June to yesterday. Sunny every day, temperatures in the mid 70s, afternoon breezes. It was perfect. Now it is all rainy outside and for the first time in I don't know how long, it is making me think about eating. Must be a trigger for me. :)

Do other vets ever deal with gloomy weather and wanting to snack? Need to turn the happy lamp ( tricks your body into thinking it is sunny) on or something.

I drink more warm drinks that are calorie free or very low calorie. My favs are sleepytime tea with a little splenda and sugar free apple cider mix. I also like just plain hot Water or hot Water with a little sugar free caramel Syrup.

I am a very seasonal eater. In the winter, I crave more hot, heavy foods like stews, roast beef, and chili. In the summer, it's easier because I love salads, fruit, and light seafood, but I have to watch the fruit and salad dressing so it doesn't get out of hand.

Yes, it must be the cool weather outside today. It was high of 81 and now it is high of 55. I did not know weather had such an impact on food cravings.

Oh for sure fiddle! Rainy weather makes me feel snuggly and cozy! And I want to put on big baggy sweaters shelter in place and feed myself comfort type foods to match the coziness.

I don't know. Maybe in a past life I was a squirrel or bear, and liked to load up on food to get me through the winter.... :P

Fiddleman

i don't have that problem/bad weather - desire to snack more :)

i wanted to comment on food and weather for me

i live in syracuse, ny (unlike many lucky OP that live in sunny CA)

when the weather is nice and hot for 2-3 months - life is so much easer/better for me :)

i drink twice as much Water as "required" :)

i am not that hungry :)

and i always eat lighter food :)

Fiddle, I'm strange enough to LOVE rain and like Laura like nothing more than to snuggle up in a blanket and like Lynda like to eat comfort foods like chili, Soups and muffins! Lol. I don't eat the muffins anymore and make low cal versions of the other foods but I know you are an active guy and maybe your psyche is affected by no sun.

Yep, get the glow light out. Ha! This too shall pass! And RUN from the Protein bars. Cause I know you live them!!! Lol

I could never, ever live in that part of the country. I am seriously affected by the weather. I get moody and depressed and of course that leads to mindless or emotional eating. I love to snuggle up and read but even that isn't as enjoyable if the weather isn't cooperating.

The worst year of my life was spent in Mannheim, Germany. I swear the sun came out a dozen times in that year. It was overcast and terribly gloomy. I put on fifty pounds before finally deciding to have surgery that summer. As soon as I stepped out of the airport into that San Diego sunshine I felt a million times better and every little niggling doubt about surgery left me.

The weather definitely affects me. On sunny, bright days I'm happy, I dance around and get out and do things. On gloomy days I mope around and if they drag on for several days in a row I get into a real funk.

The good news is the sun is back out today in Seattle and I am feeling much more cheery. Dark skies during the day must bring out the moodiness in me. And the munches ( had two Protein Bars, including a Quest - those are so good!!). And yes I did turn n the glow light yesterday. It helped. :)

Oh, Protein bars - those are the devil's food! I won't even bring them in the house after reading how many people have problems stopping at just one! That's the same reason I don't bother making low cal Cookies, etc. Who cares if they are low cal if I eat the whole batch!

Glad the sun is shining on you. And yes, you do look good in that blue shirt!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
