Recommended Posts

i woke up in the middle of he night with a mouthful of stomach acid so bad i was choking and gaging. it was horrible. it burned everything and made it hard for me to breath. i already sleep up on two pillows! yes i forgot my ppi before bed, but was very careful to not lay down less than 2 hours after eating. no one warned me about his pre surgery. it was sacry and upsetting.

That's what happened to me before surgery fairly often . For me the fastest cure is to drink about 1/2 cup cold milk.

How long ago were you sleeved? Some patients need to take PPI's longer than the usual 4 weeks post op. I am still on omeprazole 20mg a day and can't go a day without taking it. I hope the acid subsides soon!

I'm at 7 weeks out and take my PPI twice a day. Will be on for 6 months and then the Dr and I will determine if I need to continue.

Next time, maybe have some tums or another over-the-counter antacid.

I am so sorry, acid reflux is the worst! I hope you're feeling a little better now that it's a few hours later....

Cold milk, lukewarm Water, and my acid meds have helped me a little bit but, sadly, sometimes I just can't get rid of it. My Dr. told me that sometimes one acid medication won't work as well for every person, so you might need to change acid meds?

She also recommends eating much smaller, but more frequent meals and making sure to constantly sip water throughout the day!

I hope you feel better!

my surgery was 3 weeks ago. i have not been doing great. i have a lot of swelling still which is making my stomach not empty. i am doing a bit better every day, but can only tolerate 1-2 ounces of soft food and 2-3 ounces of Water at a time. otherwise everything comes up. i think this will eventually pass as my stomach starts working again, but last night was scary!

Sever nightime reflux was the only symptom of my slipped lapband over a yr ago. I took 40mg of RX Prilosec, 150mg x4 OTc Zantac and chewed Tums. I,e candy. It helped some, but I still woke up choking on stomach acid, finding brown stuff on my pillow, and having acid go up my nose. Dr couldn't gaurantee that the sleeve wpuld helpl 2 1/2 wks out and no more reflux! Hwever, never had a problem with heartburn before the sleeve (the mild daytime stuff). Im still on full liquids so not sure what that's all about. I now take RX Pepcid and chew Tums.

U may need a different ppi. I took 1 of my old Prilosecs this morning and haven't had heartburn at all. I guess kt works better for me than Pepcid.

Good lcuk

I found that about week 5 or 6 my acid mouth subsided significantly. I still don't lay down for at least 30 min after eating but it gets better every week. Hang in there!!!

Can't figure out how to link. But basically my surgeon said to sip Pickle Juice twice a day about a tablespoon each to cut the acid that was making me sick. Its been a week and I feel so much better. I have not taken any nausea meds or reglan since then. Still take the prilosec just because but the pickle juice is the real miracle. I'm taking it with me on my honeymoon tomorrow to Mexico! That's how great it works!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
