Mt. Pleasant Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Susan, I just got home. They were super busy today. They said they had to see 85 today! 85!!! We had a informal group session in the waiting room. It was so funny. But, it was also a lot of information passed around. I really enjoyed it. My appointment was at 11:15 and I didn't get to the back until around 12:30. I really felt for the docs. They were runnin... Anyway, I got my fill. Dr. Keilin did it. That's the first time I had seen her. I got the standard 1.7cc. It felt really weird,

but I did it. AND I don't know bout the needle. I promised not to look. I don't know what it would feel like without the lidocaine? but I think that stick might hurt worse than the other. Stingggggggg. I can take it. Remember, I used to be a phlebotomist and a vet tech, so it wouldn't have scared me anyway. lol I also had to give Jamie a hard time, she was outside when I left. But, it all went ok, I guess. Just glad to be home.

Talk to yall later!

Hey everyone!

I am sorry to say that we have a fellow Mt. pleasant banster that is in a world of hurt. Her name is Tonya Fagg and she works at Pro Cuts. She had lb surgery on Wed 1-31 and as of a little while ago was real sick. She used a dr from houston named Christian Thomas. She was not required to go on a liquid diet before the surgery. She ate right up until midnight before the surgery. She called me sunday crying in so much pain. She has been throwing up since the surgery. She just called and told me she has also been running a fever. This morning it was over 101. She calls this dr and he says it is normal. I don't think so. After a week, I was up and doing good. she still can hardly get out of bed. I am posting this message is several forums trying to see if anyone else had this problem. If you know her, you might want to give her a call and some support. Keep her in your prayers. I am real worried about her.

Hey, Jana. Is Tonya from Omaha? I sent her a mail from one of the other web sites and she never responded. I am guessing it was before surgery. If there is anything I can do.......... k? In my opinion, she needs to get herself to her primary care physician and get a record of this made. (Or the ER) I was up and around the place in a couple of days. She is only a couple of days behind me. The throwing up stuff is NOT right. Did she get any prescriptions for nausea??? Tell her, she is in our prayers.

Lisa,

I got an email on my yahoo account that you had sent me a message via lapbandtalk. I did not get it. Resend it or mail it to

jlogantx@yahoo.com

I just talked to Tonya. She went to the dr yesterday and by the time she got there she had no fever. Unfortunately it came back up. She called the surgeon again and he agreed something is not right. She went back this morning and they ran some test. She is waiting on the results.

Susan,

Sorry to hear this. Will it be a very major surgery? How did they detect it? I know this is a bummer but at least now you know there is a problem. Now you will be able to really get going on that weight loss. Good luck and keep us posted.

I am upset with the doctors office. I was told that the visits for one year were included in the surgery price. They even had me sign this paper stating that I would attend so many meetings or I would have to pay for them. I go yesterday and they tell me that this is for self-pay only. I have a very high deductible and no co-pay and this seems very unfair to me. Did they explain any of this to you before your surgery? I have been worried about not making enough meetings since Jan was cancelled. I guess I don't have to worry now. I was going to stay last night for the one in Texarkana, but didn't because it doesn't matter. They also only had me down for 3 meetings when I have attended 4.

oh jana i forgot to answer the other ???

dr k did my fill under fluoro and injected some dye instead of the saline and on the xray you could see the dye infiltrate the tissue not stay in the tube. the procedure to fix is done under a local with drugs to make you goofy(i think kinda of like when wisdom teeth are removed)and i guess the tubing is the only thing that will be replaced.

oh congrads on the upcoming wedding for your daughter i have a daughter that will be 30 this month and no one can afford her LOL

Hi yall! I was beginning to think that everyone had dried up and wasted away.

Jana, glad you made the mark and have started loosing again. I thought if you had insurance, the fills were filed on the ins. and all you had to pay was the co-pay. And if you were self -pay the fills were free for the first year. I have been known to be extremely wrong before. lol I guess we had better start having our own support meetings when the docs can't come to Mt. Pleasant. Would that count? lol Thanks for the update on Tonya. Will she be able to attend the meetings?

Susan...I'm sorry to hear bout the leak. Is it in the port tubing?? Wonder how that happened? Anyway, I'm glad you found out what was going on.

As for me, I'm stuck already. Haven't lost a pound in over a week. Haven't gained, but havent lost either. I don't like this so early in the game. I hope this is a temporary thing. I can tell I have some restriction, but not a lot. I still go around hungry.

Talk to yall later. Happy Valentine's Day!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
