2 weeks out, liquids only. Whats with the heartburn?

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 wks tomorrow. Feeling much better today than I have the past couple weeks. And my lapband-slip induced severe nightime reflux is GONE. but....I've had heartburn about a dozen times the past 4-5 days. I take Pepcid 2x a day and chew tums like they're candy (and if I can have Tums, why can't I have actual food? Hmmm...). I'm still on a full liquid diet (total of 4 weeks) so I'm not understanding why I have heartburn. At least my reflux is gone.

Anyone else have heartburn this soon without eating actual food?

I'm also 2 wks post op and I'm still on a full liquid diet until tomorrow. I've also been experiencing terrible heartburn for the past couple of days (with no actual food intake as well) and last night was the worst! It actually woke me up from an Ambien induced sleep. I thought I was dying, I didn't know what was wrong. My instinct just told me to eat Tums and it worked. I'm also eating those like candy. From other forums on this website I found that we should probably talk to our doctors about that. It sounds normal from what I can tell from a lot of other posters on this website. At the top, I searched for "heartburn" and found more info. One person said we're getting acid reflux from our stomach's being empty. So I've been trying to eat a small spoonful of yogurt throughout the day. I'm going to start taking an OTC med for it too. Another person said his eventually went away after a month. So in the meantime, I'm going to continue to eat my Tums until I see my doc. Good luck to you!

My doctor puts all patients on omeprazole (generic Prilosec) for the first 6 weeks. After that, I didn't need it.

My dr puts his patients on nexium for the first month. He said its to reduce stomach acids while the stomach is healing. Made sense to me! Something like nexium or Prilosec may be worth looking in to. I take it first thing in the morning, an hour before consuming anything.

My dr has me on 2x a day Pepcid (I took RX Prilosec before surgery, but I guess the Pepcid is better for small stomachs)

I think I may buy stock in the Tums company!

I was sleeved on the 16th. My surgeon put me on Nexium for 5 months. I haven't had any problems with reflux so far! :)

(I know you shouldn't do this, but I was desperate!) My dad has to take that prescription strength Prilosec too and he gave me a handful of his pills to get me through until I can see my doc or get to the store and buy my own OTC Prilosec. And they worked immediately! I haven't had to reach for the Tums all day. Such a relief! But I'm going to look into that Pepcid too since it was mentioned for smaller stomach's.

I have reflux so badly right now that it woke me up at 2:30am. I took a pepcid (Rx from the doctor) & I am hoping it kicks in soon. I had reflux before my sleeve surgery & I took prilosic otc & it worked for me. I'm on liquids only. Good luck! :-)

Since surgery I take a Prilosec in the am and a Zantac before bed. Doc suggested I could take Prilosec at night instead. So far I'm sticking with what works.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
