"Hair" Today, Gone Tomorrow...

Recommended Posts

An unfortunate new trend for me.... Fortunately I have very thick and plentiful hair.

I'm keeping my eyes on my Protein and added a B Complex 100 to Vitamin regimen in addition to my Multi-Vitamin, B12, and calcium citrate w/ Vitamin D.

I hope it helps.

I suggest you add Biotin to your bunch of pills....After 5 months of not eating except by a tube while in the hospital for complications with my sleeve surgery...I came home to no hair at all...Right away I started to take Biotin and upped my Protein. I am happy to report that 5 months later my hair is coming back..It is very short but it is back.......

You could always go with the G.I. Jane look and you won't have to worry about it.

Worked for me.

I mean face it....if you're dropping 100 plus pounds do you think anyone is going to really care that much if you shaved your head?

Losing the hair is bound to happen. Those of us who have thick hair won't even be able to tell other then lots more hair in the brush and in the shower...then after a few months lots of tiny re growth sticking up. Those with thin hair should think about shorter hair cuts for a while, along with going with highlights and lowlights to add depth. There are also a lot of great hair extensions out there that are easy to clip into your hair. If you get real hair then you can die it the same color as your real hair on your head. I would rather invest in something tangible then spending money on all of those Vitamins and special hair treatments that really don't work. Good luck everyone! :)

Meh, if my hair falls out that'll give me an excuse to buy and wear a cute Korean fashion wig. ;)

I'm sorry to hear you can relate, but the time/date stamp made me smile.

RJ - I have question about what you posted above...do you mean ALL of your hair was gone? Do you mean you were literally bald? The hair thing started for me recently (over 5 months now)...and I am petrified. I have hair to my waist, really thick...it is all I have really as far as my looks. I am taking Biotin, Prenatal Vitamins, all the ones required by my doctor, and I started using Biotin/Collagen Shampoo & conditioner. I only wash once a week. I am styling and using styling products/tools as little as possible. I knew that there would be hair loss, but I had never read a post that someone went totally and actually bald til now. I am freaking out now.... good luck to all of us with our weight loss, our hair, our skin, and all else!!

The guidance I was given basically states that it happens due to the shock of surgery and weightloss, and that for those patients that experience the hairloss, 30-40% of it could fall out, several months after the shock occurred that put them into the "resting" phase. Guidance states that it's not likely due to nutrient deficiency and there's really no intervention necessary or particularly effective and that it will begin to grow back and you don't have to worry about whether or not to Shampoo or how vigorously to shampoo, because all that does is loosen the strands that were going to come out anyway. I think this is one of the side effects where "Suck it up, buttercup" applies, unfortunately. Might be a good time to develop a personal style that includes some cute hats...

Good luck!

At 8 and half months. My hair dresser showed my on the crown how the hair is growing back but is very short. I actually have mine longer as it helps to cover up the thinner strands. Mine never came out in clumps but definitely thinner!!!

As long as genetics stay on my side this will only serve to save me the expense of having my hair thinned professionally. :-P

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
