Going out to eat after the Sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie so don't hang me from the highest tree.....what about alcohol? I'm not much of a drinker, but it would be terrible to drink if I'm not supposed to. (I'm talking about once on full foods)

Check with your surgeon's team, there are many different approaches. I'm not allowed alcohol until I'm off soft foods and on to "real" foods, which for me is 6 months post-op. Even then it is discouraged. But I know other people's surgeons allow alcohol much earlier. Your surgeon should have a detailed plan for you though. :)

My husband & I go often alone & with others.. First few times I ordered Soup & ate probably half of it. Now we go out I will order anything that I want. eat a small portion & will have a meal for the next couple of days. Sometimes i may share a meal with my husband or best friend. Its normally some sort of chicken or fish & green vegetables. I eat really slow.

I get an appetizer, or I just eat off of my husband's plate, or split a meal with my daughter. If I do order a meal, I take most of it home. I have not had an issue, and I just LOVE that I can eat so little and be full.

I just eat what I can, then pawn the rest off on the others at my table. It's usually not a hardship for my dining partners to help me out :)

We go out to eat waaaay too much' date=' I'm sure of it. The first time we went, we were in Dallas, killing time before heading home after spending two weeks for my 1st and 2nd checkup. We went to El Fenix and i ordered the tortilla Soup, I asked for extra broth, less 'stuff'. I didn't NEED to explain, but told our girl that I'd had surgery and didn't want to 'eat' much. It was heavenly.....I only sipped the broth and only about an eighth of a cup, but it was great!! Now days, we share or I order ala carte. If I WANT to have left overs for lunch or dinner a day or two later, I'll get my own entree. Otherwise, it is NOT a big deal. So many people share today, and nobody really pay attention to what other folks are eating....except WLS patients, it seems we tend to look at people's plates at near by tables and think OMG, I really did use to eat that much!!!! Go and enjoy, it's not hard at all.[/quote']

El Fenix tortilla soup was my sanity saver during the Clear liquids phase :). I still get that whenever we go!

I'm 3 weeks out and went out for dinner last night for one of the first times. We went to a Mediterranean restaurant where I'd have lots of choices on my purée diet. I had the lentil Soup and only ate half. As for alcohol, my NUT strongly advises against it for the first year. As stated, everyone's doctor has different plans. I was never a big drinker, so I won't miss it.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
