Purée ideas

Recommended Posts

I started the purée stage of my diet today....everything I tried was disgusting. Anyone have some good meal ideas? Unfortunately I don't like yogurt so that's out.

I go chicken or tuna salad, add few pickles dash of salt pepper onion onion mix, run thru food processor, add mayo til wet, I've also found a product by waldens in the health good section, they have regular mayo, ranch mayo and chipotle mayo, all tasty no carbs calories fat.. All natural.... Potatoe one in a while, and lots of eggs, measure out 1/2 cup and nuke them Yummi

I baked some sweet potatoes, scooped out the inside & ran it through the food processor with some unflavored Protein Powder & a little maple Syrup. Also, cottage cheese run through the food processor with some fruit and maybe a little agave nectar is good.

I couldn't stand the texture of puréed foods, so I moved right to soft foods, with my nutritionist's permission. Started out with soft scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and cream Soups. Plus, I had stews, cooked to a mush, then further mushed with a spoon. sugar-free puddings and applesauce are mainstays (still). As are mashed potatoes with really moist chicken (Boston Market is good for this).

I didn't really like yogurt either, but Greek yogurt has so much Protein that I wanted to make it work. I don't eat sugar, so I find the prepared yogurts obnoxious. I take plain, 0% Greek yogurt, mix in a tbl of sugar-free blueberry preserves, and Splenda and convince myself it's blueberry ice cream.

Good luck!

I didn't think eggs would be considered purée. Figured that would be the soft stage. Tomorrow I will try the chicken salad.< /p>

My favorite was rigatta cheese with a drop of marinara sauce and low fat mozerella on top.

pureed foods make me gag. its a texture thing. except for Soup. so i figure, i'm gonna make a lot of pureed soups!

one thing i do love is roasted and grilled veggies. figure they can be made into a dip type thing with olive oil.

my sheet says soft fish, so i'm gonna try that, cause we do like fish around here! figure i'll cook it in little parchment packets and mash mine a bit with a fork.

refried Beans come to mind too. i'll have to make mine myself though, since gas is an issue for me. refried Beans, little diced veggies on top with greek yogurt and tiny bit o cheese.

i like cottage cheese all different ways, sweet, savory... blame my mom, beng gluten free in the 60-70s was not easy!

when i was nursing, i made a supercharged rice pudding with no added sugar. it was mochi (short grain) brown rice, milk and eggs. you can make this with any kind of milk beverage you like. i wonder if that would work, though i know some people dont eat carbs... my nut sheets say 1-3 whole grain products a day.

I couldn't stand purée so my nut and I agreed that since I had never had any complications, nausea or vomiting, I could move to really soft mushy foods. I was big into stews and things like chowder. Cooked really, really well with lots of liquid. They went down easy. I still eat these even 9 weeks out, when my tummy gets a little upset from "regular" food.< /p>

If you like buffalo wings..... puree some canned chicken with a "triangle" of laughing cow light bleu cheese and a few drops of hot wing sauce. I can't say I've tried it, but it's on my plan for when I can have pureed foods. Also, I think Hummus is classified as pureed. Also, grilled cauliflower, pureed with a "triangle" of Laughing Cow Queso Fresco Chipotle cheese. Since I'm on "full liquids" this week, I've blended a can of Progresso Southwestern Chicken Soup with Veggies. It's 120 calories for the whole can. You can use it for several meals. Just add some unflavored Protein powder and cayenne pepper. I really like spicy foods. I hope I'll be able to tolerate them after surgery.

watch out for the sodium in canned products. it can be ver very high. also, a lot of the additives in canned/processed foods can be really hard on the stomach and GI tract. i would say avaoid them as much as possible. ep canned Soups.< /p>

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
