Hello my name is Kim and 41 years old, married and a mother to 6 young adults and grown adults(blended family). I have been on a few weight loss programs and self started programs, there has been so good results in it but it would come back faster than I lost it. I have been thinking about surgery for a few years but was afraid of going under the knife to have weight loss. In the past year I have been investigating weight loss surgery and what really happens when its done and real results good or bad. I was ready to do it but did not know how to get started but then someone close to me had just completed the process and was able to help me get started and now I am just waiting to get the approval from my insurance and from there I think I am just waiting on a date. I am looking forward to having one day where I can stand at my sink and wash dishes and my back not hurt. I want on day where my knees don't hurt walking up and down stairs. The arthritis in my knees go away and come back much later in life. I want to be able to wear a high heel, wedge heel, any kind of heel and it does not hurt before I can get out the door of my house. I just want to be happy with what I see in the mirror and know health wise I have put myself in a better position. I have chosen not to tell anyone but my own 2 children and my husband about this because I am not ready to here the judgement of people who feel like I am taking the easy way out or I am just lazy and don't want to do the work. But what I know is that this is the easy part the work really starts the day I leave the hospital and I can't wait to take on this new challenge and enter into my new life.

Thank you so much KitKat40, I am getting a little nervous about the wait. I just found out on Friday that my paperwork for approval from insurance company had not been sent in yet and i just completed my PREP and I thought I was done but now I have to see if they ok it.

It's based on your insurance what they require before the approval ... Mine was six month I had to see a Nutrionist , I had to have a psy eval , blood work , stress test , EKG , ECHO , physical , PFT's , sleep study , i had a preop class , every insurance company is different & every surgeon is different ,... Good luck

I dont know how long it takes for bcbsil to approve but I am waiting hoping that my paperwork was sent to them for approval. I will be calling bcbsil tomorrow to see if they have a request for me on file.

Well hello family, I am very excited today called bcbs il and I have been approved for my surgery. I now have to wait for them to fax the information over to University of Chicago hospital and get the rest if the process rolling. Now I have butterflies knowing that the wait is almost over. I guess I should start getting myself ready, I am hoping that we can get this done by the end of August. Just so happy now that this part is over. Will keep updating.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
