Restriction:

I notice in the mornings im tighter.

I am also tighter if I dont drink enough Water and I get dehydrated. (which might be part of why its tighter in the morning after not drinking all night)

I am also tighter the first couple of bites of food... if I eat them very slowly, then the rest goes down just fine.

-------------

I go for my second fill tonight ladies... and for a weigh in. I hope my scale at home is accurate -- I cant wait to see the difference in two weeks... hope it is good news, or I am gonna be really pissed off later :-)

I too am stuck at 230... this blessed scale wont give me the satisfaction of seeing the 220's no matter now much I exercise my butt off...

My scale is out the window too! It keeps saying 205 which is what it was saying before I went for my fill last week! And then I get to the dr and his scale says 209 - I hate it! I keep saying its the lying sob and I'm not going to listen to it anymore!

Guess what - I'm screwing off at work. LOL big deal - no one here to care. All it does is postpone my screw off time at home.

B-man why are you getting another fill so soon? I thought you had good restriction. When you talk about eating slowly and how food goes down... I can't relate at all - everything goes down for me, no matter how fast I eat - whats up with that? Aren't you staying full?

Have any of you pb'd or slimed? I haven't had either of them happen. I don't know if its because I'm cautious or I just don't have the restriction that others do.

I really am not understanding the whole "restriction" thing. First of all wouldn't restriction mean the band felt tighter? So why does that have anything to do with how fast or slow you eat since we want it to sit in the pouch for 3-4 hours to keep us feeling full. The same thing about drinking Water - if we drink when we eat it washes it down through the band right - thats why they say wait. And THIS I feel because if I drink too soon I'm hungry faster. Like this morning I drank 3 glasses of water before I ate Breakfast at 9, its 12:30 and I'm still full but I know if I drink again it'll wash it down and I'll be hungry in 1/2 hour. And the stuck "golf ball" feeling isn't that because the food is having a hard time digesting or that you ate too much? Sliming I thought was the result of food being stuck or not easily digested. Am I on the right track?

I guess I better run to the bank and post office - I'll catch up with ya all later.

I feel it when im eating but I can eat more than a 1/4 cup in order to actually feel full. I can probably eat 3/4 of a cup -- so im not even close to being restricted enough... :-)

My doc wants me to lose this big fat ass...

I keep getting fills until im losing 2 lbs a week. per the docs orders

--------------------

No PBs -- but yep... i know what sliming is...

That is when your salvia wont go down... and your nose will start running and the salvia starts leaking out of your mouth...

This usually occurs when you are also feeling like you are having a heart attack... due to whatever is stuck.

So, it is NOT pretty. Like I said when I got stuck, I do NOT recommend it.

B-man that just doesn't make sense. When I got my fill I watched the barium in the xray, in fact he showed me all of the xrays one right after the other, and being able to eat 1/4 or 2 cups doesn't have anything to do with being restricted. If you overeat the food backs up into the esphogus. Really I saw it and he told me that is why its hard to actually stretch the pouch. We should eat 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of food because thats all we need to feel full, if we push it and try to eat 2 cups its just going to back up into the esphogus and make us feel miserable. OR cause us to pb - which is why I don't understand the whole thing with people taking a bite of food and it getting stuck. Restriction should only have to do with the amount of saline in the band which would make the food stay in the pouch longer. Please don't get me wrong I'm not saying you don't make sense - just that thought. Believe me I may be wrong in my way of thinking and think I'll give Nate my PA a call to see what he has to say.

things get hung up becuase some of them are still passing down into the larger part of the stomach... right now when i take my first few bites (to my understanding) if i dont chew it enough or take small enough bites... it hits the band... blocks up the hole and my saliva wont filter down into my larger stomach... my little one fills up and I dont feel so good.

i was told that I still have food moving down into my other larger pouch (down below)... i only have about 1CC in my band... just enough for things to get hung up on if i am not careful.

When the the food starts sitting up in the little pouch where it belongs and nothing gets blocked up (i chew properly and dont take big bites) then food will eventually stop passing through as I am eating, and I will be full after a 1/4 of a cup...

Ok so I just got off the phone with Nate and he said I had the right idea. And then he went through the whole hour glass thing. If you have an hour glass and fill it with Water it'll go right through, if you put sand in it, it'll take a little longer, if you put rice in it that takes longer, if you put marbles in they'll take even longer and if you put big gumballs in it they aren't going down. So all that said he said restriction has to do with the tightness of the band and how long it takes for your food to pass through. And if you drink with your food its going to get washed on down.

He also said that video from Dr Rutledge is going to be the topic of the next support meeting. He said theres so much information going around and you have to be able to decipher whats real and whats not. He said that Rutledges proceedure has had a ton of problems and that no insurance company will ok it. I hated to bother him with this stuff but I guess it was ok since it gave him an idea for the next support group.

Thats the other thing Nate said was that if you don't have much fill in then the food will go down as you are eating - thus making it easier to eat more.

I was beginning to wonder if I would be needing a fill so soon and then I realized I was drinking Water about 1/2 to an hour after I ate and that made my food go down faster. When I don't drink until about an hour before I'm ready to eat again I can go 4 hours easily. But if you aren't a water drinker this may not work for you. I can drink at least 3 cups of water from the time I get up until I eat breakfast then another cup before lunch and supper and before bed I drink about 2-3 more cups.

Congrats, b'man! What an awesome accomplishment! You make me want to get up off my jelly and mooooooove!

I just got in from The Avenue. If anyone is interested, they are having a big sale. I got 2 track suits for 50% off. Really cute. I bought one to wear on Sunday and another one in a smaller size. Hopefully I'll be in it by the time I go to FL. While I'm in Chicago I am going to try and find a Bears t-shirt to wear, and if not, I'll just wear my orange t-shirt.

Too much to do and not enough time...

TTYL!

Brandi - Congrats on the weight loss, that is incredible. What you said about eating too fast and not chewing enough is exactly how I feel when I eat too quickly when I start eating. Thanks for all that great info.

B-man you are awesome! WTG on the 7 lbs! So very proud of you.

I definitely think exercise is the key to steady losing. And hey we are STEADY LOSERS :) I know I feel thinner. Last night my friend said Steph you are really losing, I can tell. I said thanks I'm working at it. She knows about the band - I was telling her how I've been working out and she said thats whats doing it. If you keep it up people are going to think you had that bypass instead of the band. :) made me feel good.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
