Feeling not so awesome, 4 weeks post-op!

Recommended Posts

My first 4-5 weeks were just miserable. I had the same issues with dizziness, muscle aches and soooooo tired. I saw my doc and he said I needed to eat and drink more. I was barely getting in 500 cals on a good day and never enough to drink. I started tracking and drinking Premier Protein drinks with 30g of Protein and getting in at least 600 cals a day and I feel much better. Plus I add this stuff called Greens to my shake, the extra Vitamins help with the energy. I still don't drink enough Fluid but I found that I tolerate Gatorade G2 better then Water and the little bit of sugar and carbs in it actually help with energy and the muscle cramps. I'm 9 weeks out and don't need a nap every day. Lol hang in there and keep giving it your best, you will get there.

I know everybody is different and different things work for different people. I'm on my 4th week and my calories are between 400-500 calories a day. I work really hard to get them in, as well as getting in all my liquids. What has really helped me conquer the dizziness, aside from Protein and liquids, is getting in all my Vitamins. Aside from my multi Vitamin, I have added in chewable fish oil, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Biotin, and Fiber. When I added those I noticed a decrease in the "blacking out" when I got up too quickly. I even started walking/running straight aways for three miles this week. Last week I just walked because the fatigue and blacking out was still pretty bad. Again: liquid, liquid, liquid; protein, protein, protein; and your vitamins. Good luck.

Did your doctor recommend which Vitamins to add to your multi Vitamin? Or how did you decide what to add? My day-to-day routine is even hard for me to get through. Some days I just have an over all feeling of not being healthy and not being myself. I feel like I have no control over what my body is doing and feeling. This is especially frustrating for me now that I am going back to a job that I loved before the surgery, now every second of every task seems to suck the life out of me.

In addition to my last post, I would like to say how nice it is to have a group of people that are so willing to support each other. In ny case I don't feel like my doctor prepared me in any way for the mental and emotional struggles of this surgery. I was complaining to a friend about how I've been feeling and they literally said "well this is what you wanted, what did you expect". Well honestly I didn't know my life would be such an uphill battle like this. All in all I'm glad I can turn to this group for supportive listening and conversation!

I based it on posts I've read, asked my doctor and he approved. I'm also going to add MSM to my regimen. Another thing I made sure to do was get my potassium and sodium in. It helps with the weak feelings (according to my doc). Add a mashed banana and some Gatorade. The banana in the AM and Gatorade I have added into my diet have helped me feel 100% again.

Hope this helps and I hope you feel like yourself again.

The feeling you have when you get up quickly could be orthostatic hypotension. It's when you blood pressure drops hen you stand up. Causing lightheadedness and dizzy feeling when standing. Start taking your bp sitting and then stand up and take it. if it normal when sitting and then drops when you stand this is part of the issue and report it to your PCP. You need adequate hydration and more Protein. Increase your calories. Definitely add the B12 you can get it at any Walmart Walgreens or cvs. Or injections at your PCP. B12 deficiency can cause a long list of issues ranging from low energy to neurological symptoms. But if the issue continue see your PCP. And the feelings your having of being ill prepared for the effects of this surgery is normal. You may wanna follow up with your psychologist if those feelings don't pass. But know its normal and you are not the only one to have ever felt this way. Just make sure you follow up and don't let it get out of hand. You can do this and it's gonna get better. Just take it one day at a time!!!

I had these problems as well. All I can say is that it took me up till between 2-3 months before I felt normal again. Every day gets a little better. This shall pass' date=' and you will be loving your decision very soon. In the mean time....when I was at your stage I bought Protein shots from Walmart. They have up to 27 grams of Protein per shot. Get them incredibly cold....and then they don't taste that bad. It helped me to have more energy and feel better. You need to make sure to get all of your protein in otherwise you will start losing muscle....and that is not what you want. Good luck! I hope you feel better soon! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

What are these Protein Shots called?? Are they with the protein powders, bars at your wm?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
