August 2013 Roll Call

Last night I wanted to curl up in a ball..

One of my best friends who knows about the surgery and all the struggles I have had with weight.. Anyway I was in the break room at work eating a small pile of Doritos (which I allotted for in my calorie intake) and he says to me.. What are you eating those for? Like your not allowed to eat those.. I guess I have to get used to people's criticism and thinking they know best for me..

Why does that make u wanna curl up?? I would snuff that negative criticism off!!! Just because we had surgery doesn't mean we don't have taste buds!! It's all about portion size and our new tool is there to guide us!!!! Best wishes friend!! I feel your pain!!

I guess it's just because I'm not used to people focusing on what and how much I eat.. And with my close friends and family monitoring what goes into my mouth it makes me self conscious.. I am normally by far from self conscious

See, this is the reason why I have limited the people who know that I am taking this journey. I dont need anyone to watch what I eat or how much I eat. That can really make you guarded with people where you dont want to tell them anything in regards to your weight so that you dont have to deal with the evil eye every time you put something in your mouth. I trust you know what you can and can not have so no one needs to be a food monitor for you.

I know what you mean. I was just venting on another thread how hungry I am. I too am scheduled for aug 1. Someone stated I need to get used to it or cancel the surgery. I will NOT cancel the surgery.

WE CAN DO THIS. WE HAVE TO DO THIS!!

Need to get used to it? NO! Right now my stomach is the size of a volleyball from my past eating habits. I'm filling it with a flipping shake or Popsicle. When we get our sleeve we will have a banana size sleeve. Pretty sure a shake would fill that and fill me up. Okay, my hunger crazed fit is over. Good luck everyone. We can do this!!!!!!!

I started the liquid diet today and having surgery on Aug 1 to then continue the liquid diet for 10 days. OMG' date=' I don't know how I'm going to make it. My head hurts I'm cranky!! I'm miserable and it's only been half a day!! Anybody have tips that helped them?[/quote']

I am right there with you guys. I am on full liquids no meals at all and feel like crap. I'm trying to stay positive because I know it will get better, but when my energy level is at zero and the taste of these shakes is so bad positivity is hard to come by. I look forward to looking back at this post when I am feeling better in a few days!

Not everyone has Nausea, gas pains, blood clots, etc. when I had my surgery, I was sure something was going to go wrong, but nothing did. Trust your surgeon and his/her team. The Pre Op diet was the worst for me. Post Op I wasn't hungry and I really had no trouble- well getting my meds and Vitamins in when I was crushing everything- that was a problem for 6 wks but otherwise, this has been a great adventure. I am 4-1/2 mos out and I still don't have hunger- mental hunger yes,but nothing like I had pre-op. Good Luck-- enjoy every moment toward a healthier you!

I agree...I'm so tired all day long...it's hard to stay positive...I just keep telling myself it will be worth it in the end. Having no energy absolutely sucks, though.

I think this is normal....

About the nausea....someone on here suggested that before surgery you ask for something for nausea....I had my preop at the hospital today, and asked the anesthesia person about this, and she said to ask before surgery and they would give me something. Just thought I'd share......I don't see any reason to be nauseous after surgery if we don't have to be, right? Good luck!

Yes. Pre-op diet=sucksville!

But one positive thing I am holding on to is the change in the scale right before surgery :)

Is it weird that I normally only eat one meal a day, not really a big eater, (which I know is bad because anything I do eat my body thinks I'm starving and holds onto what I do eat and stores it as fat.) But since my pre-op diet starts on Aug 5, I'm hungrier than I normally ever have been...wonder if this is more psychological than anything. I've fought the whole binge eating thing or 'last meal' mentality but I've noticed I'm just hungrier, and I'm pretty sure it'll be worse when I am on full liquids, and have to drink all my meals for a few weeks, even after surgery. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

I can't believe I only have 2 more days to surgery! I read a lot on complications so I can be informed and prepared, but I'm not scared. I'm more worried about something happening to my husband than to me. I don't know why, it's not logical but I want my honey to be okay. Maybe the fear will come later, maybe it won't.

I believe the Universe unfolds the way it should. I've done all I can. I've read, researched, asked questions, followed a pre-op religiously despite days like today that are 20-hour days, and that's all I can control. The rest is not in my hands.

So its okay to let go of the outcome now, and face whatever comes my way with courage, and dignity. That's all any of us can do, whether with this surgery or with other life-changing decisions we make.

I'm doing this to lengthen my life. If there is another outcome in the plan for me, I don't control that.

My 2 cents, on sale today for 1 cent. :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
