February 2007 bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to leave. We are driving up today (125 miles away) and staying the night . My best friend is the 1st case @ 7:30am and I follow @ 9am so we have to check into the hospital @5:45am. I so ready for the surgery. I have been on Optifast since the 12th of Jan. and have to be on it for another 2 wees post op, it really isn't that bad. My cravings are gone, but the hardest part is the change in social habits, I used to go out to dinner several times a week, meet friends for lunch etc. I have missed that part, and it is too hard to go and watch everyone else eat, so I have been staying home. My friend and I have always gotten together on Wed. nights and watched the shows on Bravo; Top Chef, Project Runway, etc. (girls night) and had margaritas and Snacks. Lol, since Jan. 11th we have been having a cup of Decaf tea and snacking on Optifast bars. It has really focused us on the goal. ( I have missed the Margaritas:heh: ) I am now 1 lb away from the twoterville and I hope that when we weigh at the hospital tomorrow I will be 299, I haven't lost the 30lbs that the Dr wanted, but will be pretty close. When I had my final pre-op appt. last week he ok'd the surgery. I am pretty happy with what I have lost pre-op. I think that the Optifast has been a really good pre-op diet, I feel great, better that I have for years and I think it is because of the nutrition in the Optifast. Anyway, good luck to everyone having surgery today and tomorrow. I will post when I get back home.

:clap2:

Hi guys, I'm doing great recovery wise, but I am unsure how much I should be eating, I am on full liquids but I feel like I am eating more than I should be. Any ideas? What about calories?

Hello Becca. I have not been banded yet but I will in 2 weeks. My surgeon said I could not take in more than 4 ounces to 6 ounces. Your pouch holds about that much. If you take in any more than that at one meal, you will stretch or as they put it, dialate your pouch. Take care and good luck.

I have the same problem sleeping. Last night I went to bed at 10:30pm, and then woke up wide awake at 2 am..I couldn't get back to sleep until 4 am, and only slept another 4 hours.

Has anyone else had this problem??

AMBIEN! I asked my doctor to write me a script before I left the hospital. I had read on the boards that people had trouble sleeping. It has worked great for me. Not that I would advocate medication without speaking to your individual MD, but it might be something to discuss.

Other comfort measures I took was, of course, the heating pad but I also made sure to leave an icepack on the port site whenever I had a chance. It definately gets better every day, so hang in there.

My hunger is returning!!! How much is Too much? I'm scared I may stretch pouch??? Any Ideas????

My surgeons office says no more than 4 to 6 ounces. That is all the pouch holds without stretching it. Also you don't want to get to tight all the time, could cause errosion over a period of time.

Just wanted to say I am home from surgery. In a bit of pain. But I am now banded!!! I do have a slight fever. The Dr told me if it gets over 101 to call. It is just over 99. I hope everyone is doing good.

Oh and the "cocktail" that they give you before surgery was exactly what I needed. Too bad I didnt have it the day before...lol!!!

I ran a fever of about 99.9 for about a day and a half, they said it was normal to do that, but to call if it got over 100.5.

Congratulations, and welcome to bandland!

I too had a fever following surgery. I think it might have something to do with the body having a little immune response to the band. At one point I felt really ill but some acetominophen (we call it paracetamol in the UK) brought it down nicely. Welcome to Bandland and hope you recover quickly!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
