I am also having sleeping problems, does anyone have any ideas. I have been sleeping on my back and I am usually a side sleeper, but for obvious reasons that is not appropriate at this time. I also am having the same "port pain" as described above by someone else. All of my pain is gone except for that little irritation. Any ideas that anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated.

I was banded on February 12!

Tamara, your doctor should have sent you home with instructions for an eating plan. Mine was 3 days of Clear Liquids, then 2 weeks of FULL liquids, then 2 weeks of MUSHIES, then solid food. Seems like every surgeon is different in what their schedule is like, but they all have the same theme, just with different time tables.

And hang in there, my 3rd day post op was probably the hardest. The gas pains are helped by walking, rocking, or using a heating pad. The motion of your body keeps it from "settling" in one place and becoming painful. I just alternated between pacing around my house and sitting in my rocker/recliner with a heating pad. Take some liquid Tylenol if you have some. I had liquid Lortab, too, but I found I didn't really need it, the Tylenol helped enough to get me through.

Hang in there, you'll make it! (((hugs)))

Redfred,

I was able to sleep on my side at around day 10, with a very soft pillow for support against my tummy. It's still a LITTLE bit uncomfortable, but not enough to keep me from sleeping on my side. I have a terrible time sleeping on my back, I snore like a freight train when I do, and I don't get good sleep.

HI!!!

man its good to hear everyone doing so well! Today im six days post op, and im sitting at a cafe with wifi a block from the house. I thought, "no problem, ill have tea and a cream soup!" but they had no cream Soup. so i ordered cottage cheese, and its very ...different than the stuff i got at home. They got it for me from the back, its not on the menu. I explained i have a stomach situation and could only eat limited things. worked out pretty good. Oh to CHEW something! Im very concious of getting it all 'smooth' texture to pass okay.I also started back on my protien shakes today. Last night i was so incredibly hungry, i heated up some instant pea soup, then blended it to make sure. It was earth shakingly wonderful.

My aunt flo came to visit yesterday and i REALLY feel weak.

Im doing okay though. im thinking of sucking on a raw steak tonight....hahahaha (im kiddin)...

My surgery was on 2/14/07.

I have posted some questions on the pre-op and post-op board, and hope someone will be able to help me find answers.

Good luck to all!:nervous

Hey,

My lap band is scheduled for this Th. 22nd. But today my Family doctor called me to say that they think my liver count is off too much and want to do further test, sonogram, etc???

I called my lap-band doctor and the office said not to worry yet that they still may end up doing the surgery and If I don't here from them to consider the surgery a go?

What do you think and has anything like this happen to you all???:faint:

Hello everyone - I am late to arrive on this post. I am being banded tomorrow - the 20th. I have been so excited. Except there are 8 people in my house (huge house and our extended family lives with us) and as of last night 4 of them (not me yet) have some sort of stomach virus with vomiting and diarhea. I am washing my hands nonstop but pray I don't wake up tomorrow morning and start vomitting before my surgery. Of course I have been on clear liquids for a few days so there is nothing in my stomach. Even the best laid plans....Oh well - all I can do is hope and keep washing my hands.

i leave tomorrow first thing in the AM. i am really nervous and scared! i know it sounds really over dramatic, but i keep thinking things like "should i leave a list of my passwords just in case. should i have updated my will?"

i know it's stupid.

i'm just so nervous! and i'm so going to miss my doggie and hubby so much. :cry

I don't think you're being over dramatic. Surgery is a very serious thing. I left notes for my kids before I went into surgery. Never hurts to take precautions.

Looking forward to hearing from you after your surgery.

Tracy, i was banded on the 13th.

Red, THey make liquid TYLENOL PM now! i used to use the pill form for pain at night when i couldnt sleep and i love the stuff. I found the liquid at the drugstore next to the cold and cough stuff.

Today i start the creamy stage! ahhh Soup beautiful soup! I ordered some of that Isopure protien powder online, it should arrive by thursday hopefully. and i think thats going to make things remarkably easier. Ive been really struggling to get in enough Water and protien. i havent come close yet to what im sposed to, BUT ive been recovering wonderfully without problems or real discomfort so far.

It's been a week since banding (Feb 12th). My port area is the only thing tender. I take a nap every afternoon, but I was doing that before surgery. Went back to work (driving bus) Thursday afternoon. Now I have a week off for school vacation. I'm going on a scrapbook weekend starting the 22nd. I'm still on Liqiud shakes, clear stuff and I have tried a couple of cream Soups. Everyone brings stuff to eat,and meals are take-outs and dining out. Then there is ME, I'm not sure what to take. But I know that I have to plan for this. Any ideas?

So so weird! But i was banded on the EXACT same day and am having the extact same problem, lol. I'm a stomach sleeper and i can't stand to sleep on my back. I am restless and my legs feel fatigue or something. I tried sleeping on my side last night w/ tons of pillows and today i have a lot of pain there. I think tonight i am going to try sleeping on the recliner downstairs.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
