The 5:2 diet

Recommended Posts

I posted in the new group, but I thought I would post here since we are just getting that figured out.

Yesterday was my fast day and I survived it, although all I wanted to do was eat. I will admit, there are days that I don't love the fasting, but what gets me through is knowing I can eat the next day! I don't get too hungry, but it is that whole head hunger thing, and let's face it, I like food!

Woke up this morning not down anymore, but still down. I am trying not to get my hopes up, but it is hard not to think that this might be working for me. If I stay around this weight, it puts me 6.2 pounds down from the highest I hit when I started 5:2 and only 2 lbs from where I was. If it works, I might even try to get down a few more pounds, but I will have to see if it is realistic. I don't want to have to struggle to stay 3 or 4 pounds under what I was if my body stays happy a little higher.

For the next 3 days, normal days for me, and trust me, I enjoyed every bite of my Breakfast this morning...but I didn't wake up early to eat it, Laura! But it tasted oh so good....curse you food, why must you be so yummy in my tummy!

OK, I think I have the group thing figured out. Oregon, Laura and I are all on the right one...I think. Once Oregon approves you to join, you can post. You have to click on the side where it is says "Group Navigation" on the right. There is a heading called group discussion. If you click on it, it brings up the threads. Oregon started one, I posted a reply to it. You can see the threads but cannot post until you are approved to join.

You should be able to find the group by looking under the community tab at the top, and click on social groups. It is called eating the 5:2 way and has 3 members.

Did that. There was no thread started. I started one. Called 5:2 with a post. Is that right?

Not sure I like the group thing. :(. You can't view groups from the mobile apps that I can tell. Only full web version.

Wow, I am so impressed with with this 5:2 diet that I will be doing this to maintain. I had just settled on being in maintenance and having my weight be 145 lbs. Well yesterday I did not plan on doing a fast day, but ended up fasting by the end of the day. I ate just a bit over 500 calories. I woke up this morning and I got on the scale and was at my lowest ever. I weighed in at 142.2 lbs. Now i will be excited if it stays off tomorrow. So I'm dancing in the rain! Yayyyyyyyy! :P it's funny how when I settle things start moving. I think that losing weight is my obsession now and will have to be to stay skinny....... :P Or should I call it my new addiction.....:P

Oh no, I hope the group works out but it sounds like it might not.

It sounds like everyone is doing well. I feel the same way as Supersweetums - I am hesitant to think this could be working but if it continues I might try to get even lower. I mean, I was never able to get below my goal weight before (or even really maintain that weight consistently, let's not lie) so I kinda walk a line between hoping this will work but also not wanting to get my hopes up too high!

Yesterday was a fast day and it was hard but I managed. I've got regular days for the rest of the week. Monday is my three year anniversary, crazy!

I'll go scope out the group and see how things look over there. I hope everyone has a great day! I'd fill you all in on what I'm baking/cooking but it's unfair to those that fast and I think it's counter productive to set people to drooling. :P I guess because I'm just used to it all it doesn't bother me.

~Cheri

Oh, and I'm down from yesterday for a total of 1.8 for the week so far. We'll see how this goes. I never lost 2 pounds a week with any consistency last time I was slowly slugging to goal. I was more like a fraction of a pound each week most weeks. And I'm used to only losing one week per month, too. 5:2 has been really amazing for me.

I just checked, Oregon has 2 groups going. You are in one, Laura and I are in the other. I think she is going to get rid of one, but not sure which one!

Maybe we can continue both. Maybe for stuff that people don't want to post on here, more personal stuff, we could use the group. There haven't been too many people coming in and asking about it, especially now that it is moved to the vet forum.

I just figured it all out! So when you click on the invite ( if your on your mobile) when the page pops up click on full site on the bottom it will temporarily take you to the full site so you can accept and see the posts. Once you are accepted you can post, after that the thread automatically shows up on your "subscribed" page on your mobile app. Pretty cool!

I have moved the original thread into the group, and merged the two groups into one. If anyone hears of anyone having trouble joining the group, or any other issues with the group, please let me know and I will be happy to help.

Daisy, I would recommend making Laura-Ven a group moderator as well, as she is almost always on. That way members aren't left pending to join the group for a great deal of time.

That's a great idea. I didn't want to be the moderator anyway, but I wanted to get it started so we could get it figured out.

I went to a big festival today and I am afraid of how much I gained. Life is back to normal tomorrow, so I will try to keep my calories down even though Saturdays are very hard food wise, because of socializing.

I think I was able to figure out how to make Laura the moderator and i sent an invite to fiddle and leeann. Is there anyone else?

We just need Georgia in here, cause it looks like she is in the other one I accidentally started, when I was learning to start a group. There should be 10 of us in this one now.

Just checking in. I hope everyone's weekend is going well. I went to the movies and had a bit of popcorn while there... But not to much because I knew we were going to have some ice cream later :) and yes it was good.

Today I'm feeling more back to normal, not the crazy hungry beast from last week.

I almost feel calm today. food and hunger are not at the forefront today.

I'm hoping that carries I've to an easier fast day on Tuesday!

Ok group stuff, I'm still trying to figure things out here.. One of our members is having trouble joining. I'm hoping we can figure it all out soon.

No loss this week but no gain either :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
