keep having feelings of regrets

Recommended Posts

I'm calling shenanigans on the whole 3 docs said it would decrease life expectancy by specifically EIGHTEEN years! Why the hell would you have the surgery with doctors telling you that?

OP... good luck and please know that you can make it through this bump in the road! I highly suggest you talk to your doctor about getting on an antidepressant. Also, I am a night nurse and I have trouble sleeping day and night, try 1/4 to an 1/8 a tablet of unisom. It's enough to get you to sleep without making you drowsy or dehydrated. A good nights sleep may help with your depression.

I can relate. I am nearly 13 weeks out...woke up regretting it & still do. I had trouble with sleep at first' date=' but then, as I began exercising more I am back to sleeping like always. So, you may want to exercise more. I do have more energy now, so I don't sleep as hard or as long as I did before surgery. I don't mind the vitamins; I've taken Vitamins & supplements for years now since I first saw Dr. Oz on Oprah years ago. It may help to get one of those days of the week tray things & do them as soon as you get up in the morning. I haven't had the hair loss yet, but I know (and dread) it coming. I don't have a boyfriend, but I think my sex drive would be fine if I had a man! lol I haven't experienced in change in breakouts - maybe check with your nut or even a dermatologist to see what it is your body is needing to clear it up.

I don't get in the fluids or Protein, either. Eating and drinking are still uncomfortable for me. It has gotten better, but it is still a struggle. I worry about the getting older, too. It freaks me out that I willingly cut 18 years off my life with this surgery, but I did it. I have to be accountable. And maybe the 18 yrs I have read about & been told about is wrong! At least, that is my hope!

I truly get it. Don't let the sleeve cheerleaders who love their sleeve get you down with their comments or questions - because they don't get you & your situation....just take it day by day. It is getting easier for me to deal with this decision, maybe it will get easier for you, too.

Best of luck to you.[/quote']

What do you mean cut out 18 yrs if your life?

Thanks MadJules.

NP... lol... that means no problem!

I sure hope the OP seeks help, gets past her regrets and comes back here to help others that are feeling regretful. I believe this is a place to come to vent anything you are feeling even though regretting getting the sleeve is not what we want to hear I sure hope she was able to find help/comfort.

Here's info from the Bariatric Surgery Association:

Summary and Recommendations.

Substantial comparative and long-term data are now published in the peer-reviewed literature demonstrating durable weight loss, improved medical comorbidities, long-term patient satisfaction, and improved quality of life after SG.

The ASMBS therefore recognizes SG as an acceptable option as a primary bariatric procedure and as a first stage procedure in high risk patients as part of a planned staged approach.

Based on the current published literature, SG has a risk/benefit profile that lies between the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

As with any bariatric procedure, long-term weight regain can occur and, in the case of SG, this could be managed effectively with re-intervention. Informed consent for SG used as a primary procedure should be consistent with consent provided for other bariatric procedures and should include the risk of long-term weight gain.

Surgeons performing SG are encouraged to continue to prospectively collect and report outcome data in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.

I am postitive the OP will get past this little bump in her weightloss journey. Some times a major surgery with heavy anesthesia can do odd and complicating things to a person. Depression and melancholy in part along with lack of enthusiasm. gotta get past that and things will get on track :D

The breakouts can be caused by a high Protein diet. I experienced breakouts during the first few months, and I am old and dried up! Until then I had not had a zit in decades! It will pass. Just like all the other maladies you are experiencing.

I can't believe any bariatric specialist would tell a patient that wls will shorten their life span by 10 to 18 years.....

I want to know where these doctors got their information.......

It makes me so angry to here this......

I believe it makes us healthier with a longer life span............ :)

Really taking Vitamins only takes a minute or two out if your day, it doesn't have to be a big deal.

And the B12 sublingual? I was told to only take that once a week.

My doctor has me taking the B12 sublingual every day. I took it before surgery, too, bc I'm a vegetarian. I think it's usually recommended every day? Your doctor can give you a shot if you don't want to give a shot yourself or take the Vitamin.< /p>

People who underwent gastric bypass surgery had a 40% reduction in the rate of death compared to their obese counterparts. More specifically, they had a 56% reduction in death from coronary artery disease, a 92% reduction in death from diabetes, and a 60% reduction in death from cancer.

Gosh! I am getting the sleeve to add years to my life, not cut them down :(

ALSO< Girls, how did you get to get the B12 shot? That is so good for you? Do you have to pay cash for it? How much is it? Sorry for so many questions but I haven't even had the sleeve yet and know I need these shots. But, insurance won't cover them anymore.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
