Newbie getting sleeved by Dr. Ramos Kelly on May 24th!

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

I've been lurking here for months now and decided it is finally time to become active. My name is Samantha, i am 29 years old, 282lbs and 5'6". I have been considering WLS for many years now but it was never covered by my insurance. After doing some research I decided to go to Mexico! I honestly never thought I would even consider going out of the country for surgery.

Anyway, I leave friday morning to TJ for my surgery with Dr. Ramos Kelly. Anyone else out there having surgery with Dr. Kelly this week?

Congratulations on making the decision to take back your life! If you're as lucky as I have been, you will feel blessed beyond belief that this choice was available to you and that you had the courage to take the plunge!

I was Dr. Kelly's patient almost exactly a year ago (May 14, 2012). I just emailed him today with my before/current pics and to thank him for his skill, his support and for helping me be such a success. I am LOVING my life now! He emailed me back within an hour with his congratulations!

I'm still 46 lbs from goal, but I already know that I can do it, no matter how long it takes. I'm doing all the activities I'd given up for the past 25 years (softball, cycling, walking, training for 1/2 marathan walk this fall on my 44th birthday). I am going to start running (never done that in my life!), and I am not afraid of anything now!

No more asthma meds (3 puffers and 2 oral meds before surgery). I shop in regular clothing stores now (size 14, used to be a 28!). I expect I will get down to a 10 and possibly lower. I do play with my 5 nieces and 1 nephew anytime they want, at any game they want. I can zipline (done, this past January), I'll be rollerblading this summer, horseback riding, ice skating this winter, rock wall climbing, playing volleyball, doing an "amazing race" type event in August here in Toronto, walking in a 5K event next weekend.

The list just goes on and on.

This is my 1 year post-op post on VST (from last Monday):

You can do this! Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Hi. :) I believe that I have narrowed my choice of surgeon to Dr. Ramos-Kelly, as well. Although I love what I have read about Dr. Aceves, I can't justify the extra expense which would also delay me being able to get the procedure done, as well. Dr. Ramos-Kelly has a wealth of experience and thus far, what I have read about him has been overwhelmingly positive. I am happy with my choice! Because I am trying to get it scheduled for when I am off for a carpal tunnel surgery, as well. I will probably end up scheduling for the end of July or early August (it depends when I can get scheduled for the CTS). Anyway, I am always eager to hear real stories of peoples experience with Dr. Ramos-Kelly. I will look forward to hearing your story! Good luck and congratulations!

Hey HopefulintheNW:

I'm a newbie and have been reading posts for a week. I think I'm going with Dr Ramos Kelly too. I also had carpel tunnel surgery on my left wrist a few years ago. Please be aware that you will be in pain from the hand surgery and you hand will be in a molded ' cast' for several weeks. You might want to plan your WLS toward the end of your time off. I had to have my husband help me with my clothing so I could go to the bathroom! I hope you have someone to help you prepare your foods. You listen your surgeon as Dr Jamie Kelly. Did you switch?

I'm hoping to schedule mine in mid July.

I was sleeved by Dr Kelly on May 30th. The best decision I ever made. I didn't even take the pain meds in my iv the next morning....All is going extremely well. Good luck...I think you all made a great decision.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
