I started this journey in June weighing 423 lbs I was put on a modified liquid diet and asked to lose 20 lbs. In July I weighed in at 403...then in Aug 387 ...I had surgery on 9/17 and weighed in 383...Today I am 374....I have about 176 more lbs to lose and I have a feeling for the first time in my life, I can look forward to actually losing this weight.

I dont know how close to goal I will get, but I like the fact that I know I have a fighting chance at getting there!

I hope you keep in touch!! I would like to see how your doing!!!!

I was 382 when I had VSG on 2/14/14. This morning I weigh 263. My surgeon gave both bypass and sleeve as options, but ultimately left the decision to me. I couldn't be happier!

BeccaR,

Don't get too bummed out. My surgery was cancelled the night before because my thyroid was out of wack. It gave me two more weeks to stay on the pre op diet. I was losing 10.5 lbs per week following it to the letter. By the time I reached my operation day I had already lost 40+ lbs. and I felt great, so much so I was questioning weather or not I nedded the surgery. You can drop the weight and the bmi before your surgery. You need to stick to the 4 shakes per day and your three meals. Do not binge, do not cheat, remember this is for you and you alone. Would you steal from yourself? I am going to give you a quote that someone gave to me at the beginning, and every time I was in a situation that required total willpower I always said this to myself.

" Nothing tastes better than being thin ! "

So every time I looked at my plate or my options I would say " is that really worth not being thin? And the answer was always no. You can do this as long as you keep a good strong spirit. You have your family and friends that I am sure believe in you, now you need to believe in you. This whole experience will not work unless you can believe in yourself. I don't even know you and I believe in you. If I could pull this off then I know you can too. I started at 405 and had surgery in July and now I am 289. I feel great and that food that I could have had would never had tasted as good as I feel today.

Keep me posted on how you are doing and always remember that there are people out here that really care about your success. We are all now part of the healthiest people on the planet, and we welcome you to the family.

Good luck on your diet, and if you need any help or have any questions please feel free to send a direct message.

Thank you for that bit of inspiration Jack Hollywood. I just started my pre-op liquid diet today and am having my sleeve surgery on 11/18. I really needed that. I hope to have as much success as you have. If only i can survive this liquid diet! :-)

I was sleeved at 414 and I'm the same height as you. My surgeon did mine laparoscopically. Surgey was a breeze. The biggest problem I had was finding a vein for my IV day of surgery. Other than that no problems. I was up and walking in recovery and didn't need the pain pump or have gas pain.

Having the sleeve was the best thing I have ever done for myself, I wish I had come to this realization ten years ago, instead of dieting and gaining and dieting and gaining, over and over again, I would started in the low 200's, instead of the low 300's. I would have lost and gained one more time and back on track for my Dad's early death at 57, instead feeling like I am 10 years younger now.

If you are thinking about and just aren't sure - let me tell you, if this had been another diet, I would have quit before now and would be higher than when I started. The restriction forces you to realize that you don't need that much food. I used to get sooo angry when a skinny friend would say that "I just don't need that much food" when staring at a skimpy meal. Today, as I can only eat few ounces at a time - I finally get it.

70+ lbs down and another 70 to go - this is the first time where I truly believe I have a chance to be a normal weight and maintain it.

My highest weight was 491 at the end of Sept 2014. I lost about 70 lbs in 2.5 months on my own, had surgery on 12/17/2014 at ~422lbs and have lost about 53 lbs in the two months since. (My 2 month anniversary was yesterday.) About 120 total. Very happy and know I have a long way to go but am super optimistic about getting there!

When I was preop, this was the thread I came back to over and over again. The fact that I weighed 325 (as high as 330's) was the shock I needed (along with rapidly deteriorating health) to make a change. When I started researching WLS I would come to this thread and read, and re-read just to convince myself of the possibilities that existed. It's hard (preop) to believe in yourself enough to see the possibilities I think. I just wanted to come back to say thanks to all those who inspired me on this thread. I hit "onederland" today. It was strangely anticlimactic in a way. But I've been waiting a long time to see that number. My one year Sleeversary was last Friday 3/13. There were moments when I thought I'd fail. I have 25-30 to go. I'm beyond grateful for a second chance at life. And those who shared their stories on this thread were a huge part of getting me there. Thank you - especially to Cowgirl Jane. To all those starting out: BELIEVE IN THE POSSIBILITIES! Keep reading, keep healing, keep talking, keep believing. It's so worth it.

I started this process shortly after getting over an illness. It was then I realized I needed to have surgery not only to lose weight but to stop the cycle of losing 35 -50lbs, getting sick and regaining. I was at my highest weight, 414lbs. I never really lost any weight pre-op. DOS I think I was 412. I had surgery 9/18/14. To date I am down 75lbs. My next mini -goal is to lose another 40 lbs by June. That will put me out of the 300's.

Again I am amazed at how insanely easy this has been for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
