Recommended Posts

I'd like to try the nectar in water.... any opinions on the best flavor?

You mean the Syntrax Nectars? If so, there are SOOO many flavors. It is going to be a personal thing. I prefer chocolate truffle and Crystal Sky. I have heard lots of good things about fuzzy navel. The strawberry kiwi was good to me, but really sweet. The only one I really didn't like was orange cream--it was just strange.

BJ's bariatrics sells sample packs in quantity of 11 and you can choose which ones you want to try. They come quickly too.

The caribbean cooler is pretty decent in Water, also--and I have to say I kind of love the Double Stuffed Cookie, but since I'm pre-op, I mixed that one with 1% milk, which miiiiiight have changed the experience a bit. shhh.gif

So far I have had the wild cherry flavor and it was ok, reminded me of Jello Water. I didn't really care for the fuzzy navel but I will still drink it. Currently I am sipping on the lemonade and it seemd to be ok as well. I think i like them because they aren't sweet. I bought the variety pack from BJ Bariatrics.

To me, I thought most of the fruit juice flavors were disgusting. The only exception was the fuzzy navel, but I wasn't THAT crazy about it. I haven't tried crystal sky.

I have in my possession strawberry mousse, vanilla bean torte, and chocolate truffle. The best one with Water is the chocolate truffle as it tastes like a yoo hoo. The rest taste better with milk, or milk and kefir/yogurt.

Once I get to the stage when I can add fruit I am sure that my taste buds may change a bit.

Fuzzy Navel, Roadside Lemonade, Lemon Tea, caribbean cooler - I'm 8 weeks post op and still use them. I mix with 16 oz Water and some ice. Saved me during those first 3 weeks when I couldn't take any more vanilla or chocolate!!

The best lemonade I had was when I mixed Unjury's strawberry Sorbet with crystal light lemonade. That was like WOW, no texture change and a yummy strawberry lemonade drink.

if you mix these in Water are they clear? Just wondering if they are ok for the first week post op?

I was only on clear liquid the first two days when I was in the hospital but was ok'd for full liquid on day 3 and I started them then. nectar is a high quality Protein with few impurities and the way it's formulated it is safe early on. So is Isopure RTD but I found them pretty intense flavor wise. The nectar is pretty strong for me too so I would either use more Water or I bought some unflavored Nectar from BariatricAdvantage.com and would mix them half and half. But as always, you should follow your doctor/NUT guidelines because they know your personal history and we do not.

nectar is one of the options given to us in the hospital as a first drink.

Roadside Lemonade, pink grapefruit and strawberry/kiwi are my favs pre-op.

Who knows post-op? ;)

Just gave in this afternoon, and bought the full sized container of Double-Stuffed Cookie Syntrax Nectar. I'm enjoying it when mixed with Water rather than milk--I like it a lot more than I expected to! Had some as a substitute for after-dinner snacking, and it totally satisfied the urge for sweets.

Agree that the nectar sweets including double stuff cookie and chocolate truffle are really good with water!!! They are probably a reason for my success to lose my sweet tooth. Still drinking Syntrax Nectar sweet shakes 10 months post op.

I REALLY wanted to try the Double stuf flavor. What does it taste like exactly? I assume it mixes just as well as the others, right?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
