There is some good news... The bigger you are the faster you will lose. Starting at 500+ lbs I'd be very surprised if you didn't lose 125-150lbs in the first 6months and 200lbs in the first year. Of course this is assuming that you are compliant to the program set up for you.

We have had several sleevers on this forum that have started in the same area you are in. Even a couple 600+lbers.

You are not alone' date=' believe me, we do not look down on you. I can say, but for the grace of God go I. Many of us were headed for right where you are at. We were just fortunate enough to find the sleeve and were able to get it before we got there.

One last thing, I understand your hesitance to post pics, before surgery you couldn't get me near a camera. I wanted no evidence anywhere that I had allowed myself get as big as I did. BUT, I must urge you to take a few "before" pics you will be so much more comfortable just a few months after surgery, and you'll wish you had pics if where you began. Additionally, 6months or a year out, when one of your acquaintances talks about how they didn't even recognize you, there is going to be a big girl/guy there overhearing the conversation, someone will ask how you did it. The big girl/guy will assume that you lost 50 or 60 lbs, once they see where you came from you will become their saving grace.

Yes, you are bigger than most of us were when we started, that just means that your opportunity to improve your life and inspire others is that much greater.[/quote']

You took the words right out of my mouth. Take some before pics. Take some before measurements.

Don't hold yourself to extremely high number goals. Set realistic goals and non scale goals.

And remember, you are taking control of your life/weight. That is an amazing thing!!!

Take some before pics. From every angle, even with clothes off if you're comfortable. It has helped me on many a gloomy day to look back at the person who was standing in front of the same mirror 5 months ago. Take pics every day, week, month. You'll be able to see the changes. It's nice to see it in a photo if you can't see it in a picture.

The most important thing is that you will be on a path to better health. Don't be too concerned about if you're keeping up with everyone on the weight loss. Everyone has their own journey, and I'm sure that you will be quite content with the changes, no matter how big or how small. I can buckle my heel ankle strap now. Sounds dumb, but it was a HUGE deal to me.

Good luck! And keep us posted on your journey. We're all full of advice and experiences, both positive and negative, and no matter the problem, someone can almost always help you :)

I just want to say, you are a beautiful person and just because you don't see many starting at your weight, there are some. Although I many not be where you are, I was headed that way almost 4 years ago. It has taken me 4 years to get 60 lbs off. But, I know that having this surgery will help change my lifestyle.

Everyone else has said what I would have said. You will do great and we are all here for you!

I was just able to start those thing with my kids. What a difference. I have felt somewhat like you, I was 602 at my highest, lost 17 lbs on pre-op and was 575 day of surgery, tomorrow is 1 week post op and I am both scared and excited to see what I weigh. There are time before surgery I read this forum and was like to people don't even know what overweight is, but I have realized we are all different. It doesn't matter what weight others are, your life is what matters. We do have a longer journey, but the end results will be worth it. My patient advocate told me about a patient they had that was 720 pre-op and ended up below 280 so the weight loss is there if you do everything your supposed to. Your health, energy, ability to do what you want that you can't do now is the most important thing to think about. This forum is so we have people to relate to, not compare ourselves to. Good luck with your surgery and you can always ask your doctor about future alternatives. My Doctor will do the DS in a year or more out if I am not happy with my weight loss.

:( I'm feeling VERY down today! I get on this forum everyday, I look at ppl's progress and I am so happy for them but then I read the stats of their pre surgery weight and I get so dwn about it. Some of u guys are starting this wls at 300 lbs, 275lbs and even 215lbs and here I am at 500+lbs and I'm just getting my date. Believe me, no 1 is to blame for this but me but when I see ppl that had the wls already...I'm thinkin I have SO MUCH WEIGHT TO LOOSE, Im worried about just getting to some of yalls STARTING weight  . Im just really feeling like is this surgery gonna be enough for me to be at a normal weight? I'm scared to even put during and after pics on this forum because Im ashamed it will take a decade to even get to where you guys are! Im sorry for being a buzz kill 2day but this is just how I'm feeling 2day.:(<_<

I hope you find this blog inspirational, she is an amazing lady who has bravely chosen to share her life with the world. Good luck on your weight loss.

Hi! I'm from the heavier side as well, but I choose to love me for who I am. I agree with the taking measurements and pictures pre-op. If you don't want to see the pics now, I saw a post of someone suggesting to get a disposable camera and take 2 pictures each month and on your year get it developed so you can see the changes and how far you have come in the year. Where you are and decisions you have made are huge and we are all so proud of you! Can't wait to be on the losers bench!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
