Isn't it a great feeling !!!!! I stepped on the scale and had two good drops adding up to ten pounds. I am not getting so excited though because I gained 25 pounds on a food funeral. It is exciting though. How you feeling? I am on day 6 of my preop. 28!! Wahoooo

I thank goodness only had gained about 4lbs on my food funeral... I'm at the end of day two of my pre-op diet... Today was HARD much harder than yesterday was. I was in shock when I saw that in 24 hours I had lost 5lbs! Is your date the 28?

Thank you Brenda its been awful to be so sick. I feel sorry for my husband because he has to deal with my serious health issues. He drives me to the doctors because I have neuropathy. I not able to drive. I want a good quality of life. I have not been given a choice about having the gastric sleeve. It is either that or die at the age of 44.

Omg, that is a wake up call isnt it? I am so happy that you are choosing to live! I am pulling for you, I am sure you will do great.

Looking for some advice here. I woke up yesterday with an insanely hurting wisdom tooth. Hurts to swallow' date=' can't open my mouth very wide, tooth kind of swollen. Having my surgery in 4 days. I WILL have this surgery. I'm concerned about this tooth though. Will this affect anything? I haven't been taking anything for it and I do have a dental appointment in a few weeks. This is making me nervous. Why does this have to happen now? Ugh :([/quote']

You need to been seen sooner than later you could have an impacted tooth or an infection... Super dangerous to have that for surgery... Infection in one area can put you at huge risk for other surgical infection. You need to call a dentist tomorrow... Or see if you can find an emergency dental office

I ended up going to urgent care and got an antibiotic. Not sure that it's infected but as a precaution. Then spoke with the nurse at my sleeve doctor to make sure it was ok to take. Doc told her to tell me yes, take it. Already feeling better and mentally at ease now that I have doctors approval :). Thanks, y'all :)

27 over here!! Are you excited. When are you starting your pre-op diet?

What can I do to help you. I know this type of change is scary. I did not have surgery in Mexico. I had mine in a small town in Louisiana. I had to stay at a hotel for 3 days after. I will pray for you and if you have any questions or concerns message me.

I was sleeved June 10th and I was feeling so good yesterday!! Today I decided to go into work for 3 hours. (I am a wound nurse) And let me tell you. I am now exhausted!! I think I am gonna take a nap and relax now. I really thought I would be ok with returning to work, but nope! I even had an aide come in so I did not have to push/pull/lift patients. I am waiting on my energy to come back!

Girl, Rest! I know that you are very caring but your know the saying I tell all my parents of the NICU babies, You need to take care of yourself or you will be worn out and unable to take take of your baby. I know that being a nurse you worry about your pts and you want to get back to work. Rest and enjoy your time. Your co workers will help the pts out. You sound like a great nurse. Rest and heal and go back to work when you have the strength.

So yesterday I attended a crawfish boil. I just sat there and ate my sugar free pop sickles and drank Water. I did not do anything. I am usually the funny life of the party kind of girl. Not yesterday. I just sat there. I was supposed to attend my cousins wedding that night. Ha Ha yeah right. I told my husband I needed to go around 5 pm. I came home and was falling asleep while watching TV. I told my husband I was going to lay down. That was 6 pm. I woke up again at 12 midnight and when back to bed. I woke up at 334 and went back to bed and finally got up at 420 am. Yes I slept all that time. How am I going back to work in a week? Anybody else having these problems? I am exhausted. I am so not the girl I was before surgery. I don't talk or joke. I just sit there like a zombie. Never thought this type of surgery would change who I am. I want my personality back.

Help- getting sleeved Wednesday and having a horrible day today thinking about what my life will be like afterwards!! I am also really missing my coffee and could not get started this morning. Trying to clean the house to prepare and getting nowhere! Can anyone relate?

So I agree with the coffee issue. I also cleaned the house and felt the same way. I decided to do it in small jobs. First I did the bathrooms one day. Second I did the laundry and dishes. Third I cooked for the family and cleaned the kitchen again. The fourth day I packed and swept and mopped. I decided I would take my mind off the surgery and I played 80's music and zoned out and did the house work and danced. It was fun and I forgot about the stress.

Settie, I am now on postop day11. I am just starting to get some energy back. The first week I slept for 6 hours and was awake for 6 hours, rinse and repeat. Now this week I am slowly increasing the amount of time I am awake.

I must tell u that I did have a set back at the 7 day mark. Shhhhh, dont tell anyone...I drove myself to my postop visit. 45 minute drive one way in my stick shift Mini Cooper. Yeah that didnt end well, I was in so much discomfort by the time I got home I was in tears. I havent left the house since.

So yesterday I was up about 12 hours and I slept about 10 hours. Give yourself a break and a chance to recoup.

I completely understand the exhaustion. I planned to return to work two weeks after surgery, i was sleeved on the 3rd. That is so not going to happen. I get tired just from taking a shower. Before surgery, I was never one for taking naps and was constantly busy. Now, my bed is my best friend. I will be glad when I can get all of my energy back.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm 6 days out and was going to return to work on Wednesday. There's no way, I told my boss I'd be another week. I feel very alienated right now and not my usually spunky self. My guess is because of being on just liquids. It's hard to watch other people sit around and eat and be full of energy. I'm exhausted and tired of liquids. I imagine we'll feel better once we are on normal foods. I think everyone goes through this in the beginning. Right??

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
