I am 6 days post op and doing just fine. I stayed in the hospital for two days due to nausea and pain. I threw up the Lortab so they switched me to Roxicet. Only thing is that makes me itch so I have to take Benedryl with it. Otherwise no major complaints at all. The first night is always the worst but they pump you full of pain meds to see you through. WALKING will be your friend. It helps with the gas. Walking and moving in general helps with the gas and bloating so do it as much as you can in between periods of sleep. So far, I can tolerate just about anything I've put in my mouth. sugar-free Popsicles are my friend as well as Premier Protein shakes. Regular Water, especially cold water is a chore. It gets 'stuck' for some reason but hot broths and Soups are just fine. Adjusting to this new tummy of mine has really been an adventure. Loving every minute of it.

Well, I was sleeved on Friday the 28th... What a roller coaster ride that was! First, there was an emergency which pushed back all my surgeon's appointments. Then, because I have such small veins & was slightly dehydrated from the wait, I became a pin cushion! 5 different nurses, & 13 sticks later, they had an IV inserted. So from that episode caused someone else to be put in front of me. More waiting... Doc said surgery went well, no complications. Recovery on the other hand SUCKS! No pump for pain meds for me.. I had to ask for pain meds when I wanted them which, my nurses were pretty good on getting them to me w/o a major delay. The leak test ended with me painfully puking while trying not to fall off the machine. Smh I slept most of the time. I walked around with a mask on my face because the smell of my urine made me nauseous. Foods, visitors, doctors, & nurses' smells made me gag it was horrible! The day after surgery they gave me 2oz of diluted grape juice to drink before I could be discharged. Took me 3 & 1/2 hrs to drink it.. ugh it was so sweet. So, I got down as much of that as I could & was released Saturday at 4:30pm. When I got home I couldn't keep anything down! Kept gagging & throwing up & around 10:30 was readmitted in the hospital. 6 nurses, 2 doctors, and an ultrasound machine to find veins & they found nothing.... my arms have so many holes its ridiculous! My nurse was also sleeved & encouraged me to walk. Her advice really helped me in just understanding that I will get through this. I mean, this forum is very helpful, don't get me wrong, but actually seeing someone who had been through what I'm currently going through gave me hope. Anyways, I was discharged @ 7am Sunday morning. I missed church :( but my church Fam came over to see about me.. I slept most of the day. Since I've been home I've taken 2 pain pills. Today has definitely been much better. Freeze pops, ice chips, & (homemade) Jello have been my best friends! Store bought jello seems a little too rough for my stomach. It also helps to have family, friends, a great support system to help during your recovery. I sure hope it continues to get better from here.

Hello everyone! How is everyone feeling? This post is kind of long, but it's basically my update on how my surgery went :) I'll just fill you all in on how my surgery/recovery went... June 28, 2013 Got to the hospital around 5am. Checked in and around 5:15 I was called to the back to get prepped for surgery. After they got me into the hospital gown and got my I.V. In they allowed my parents and fiancé to come to the back. They gave me reglan to coat my stomach... Well I had a less than good reaction to it. I got hot, couldn't stop moving, and I kept asking if I was doing the right thing... Man o man was I scared... I was scheduled for 7:00 and my surgeon was late... I wasn't happy about that... Finally around 7:20 they came and gave me a shot that calmed me down and I fell asleep. The next thing I remember was kissing my parents and fiancé bye and then rolling out of the room, down a few halls and through a few doors. Next thing I know I see a big light to my left and hear someone say, "ok Dr. Richardson is on his way," then I was out. I was in recovery and was told my family could see me for 10 minutes on the even hours. I was in recovery for 9am. And my dad and fiancé came in for the 10am visit. Then my mom and fiancé came in for the noon visit. My fiancé had to leave to go to work. And my dad had to go run some errands so they both left. For the 2pm visit my mom was not called back until 2:30 which made me nervous. They asked again about a room since everyone else in recovery had already been moved...and there was all new people in there.... Between visits by my parents and fiancé I remember being woken up by alarms and a nurse telling me to take deep breaths through my nose. This happened every time I fell asleep. When asking when I would have a room and the nurses lied to me and my family and said I hadn't been assigned one yet. The real reason is because my oxygen levels and heart rate kept dropping. (Because of sleep apnea that we didn't know I had) It really bothers me that they never did tell my family what was happening in recovery... Just before the 4pm visit I was finally sent to a room that they forgot had been assigned to me... The rest of the afternoon I just slept on and off. Around 7 I got up and went to to the rest room and walked the halls for a few minutes. I did this again around 9pm when my dad was back. After my 9pm walk I was itchy. So i was given Benadryl and I was out until 2am when I walked again... Around 6am a nurses assistant brought me some ice, which I was glad to have. Then around 8 my nurse came in and asked if the doctor had came in an started me on liquids... I said no, but a lady brought me ice. Well it turns out I wasn't supposed to have ice yet... And the assistant got in trouble. I was itchy again and got more Benadryl. At 10am I was finally allowed to have sf lemonade and ice. It was yummy! Then I was released at 1 and my fiancé was there to pick my mom and I up at 2pm. The ride home went well. I haven't had much gas pain or severe nausea. But I have had some pretty intense hiccups! But those are getting better too! I hope everyone else is doing well with their recovery!

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
