It will be a while before you're able to eat those things. I'm guessing at maybe 6 months postop. I'm 3 wks postop now and am barely eating any meats. It's takes time because of healing and swelling. Good luck!

You have two topics so far and you've asked about eating steak, hot dogs, cheeseburgers and BBQ. Have you had at nutrition consult? Perhaps you need to sit down with him/her and with a support group to hear what your diet is going to be like before you go through surgery. The things you are asking about are not in the best interest of your new stomach, new lifestyle or your weightloss. :)

yeah - the full burger is going to be an issue. I'm 2 mos. out and can eat the BBQ, burger, or whatever but after a few bites I'm full. That's why I had this surgery. Its the ultimate in Portion Control. It will still be a while post op before you want any of these things. And when you are able to digest them, a lot of times its just not worth the trouble. You learn quickly which foods are easier to eat than others.

most can enjoy all the foods post op they loved pre op, just smaller portions. you will eat smaller bites, chew longer and probably enjoy conversation in between bites. don't fret

I was told hamburger meat is very full of Protein, so once I get to the week where I can add ground beef (my nutritionist has me adding a new protein every week) I will grill a small 2oz size burger and eat it without a bun..probably on lettuce if I can handle it.

I am 10 days postop and had 1/2 cheeseburger today no bun took small bits and chewed very well. I had no issues with it.

You'll be able to eat the burger in a few months, the only thing is you'll have 3 or 4 bites max with the bun included. I doubt you'll be even intersted in eating that post-op just due to your new diet regime. bread has no purpose in my life anymore, it hurts and is a waste of space.

I'm a little over 2 months out. We went to In and Out out of "necessity" ;) I had less than half of a hamburger and was completely satisfied. It felt good to not scarf down the whole thing. Funny thing is the next day my stall broke! I don't recommend it for anybody, including myself, doing it very often but it's good to know it can be an option once in awhile.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
