My Life as a Bandster

Recommended Posts

You all are absolutely right, the emotions are a mess. I am fine all day at work, but at bedtime I seem to fall apart. The dr gave me some pills for anxiety...it appears he knew what he was doing. I took one last night, after having a big huge ugly cry, and fell asleep quickly. I think I am just going to take one every night this week. Apparently I am more anxious than I realized.

It is great having the support here. I have learned so much. I can't imagine going through this without this lifeline...Thanks again.

I am down another pound today. Have a long day at work today, we are doing a spa party tonight for a group of massage therapy students. Should be really fun and positive. (Its the bridal party ones that stress me out.) I nested on Sunday, cleaned closets, went grocery shopping etc. All in all, I am pretty much ready to go.

Well off to another skinny day. I have lost 12 pounds so far...2 more to go before surgery. Big hug everyone.

You will love TJ, Mexico is fun. Myself, mygirl and her mother all walked all over after being banded. The walking was a big help in recovery. Have fun and loose the fat too.

Was it Ativan/lorazepam, by chance? I'd loooove some-a that!

You guessed it Argon, I think I will take one tonight before the crying freaking out stage instead of after.

Had a few more calories today than I should have but no big deal. It is windy and raining cats and dogs here...hope the ferries are fine on Saturday or I may try swimming over...have to take advantage of my bouyancy right now cause it won't be that way for long!

G' night everyone...happy thoughts.

Had a great sleep, no tears. I have a relatively easy day today. I took the afternoon off to get my 'hair-did'. So, I just have to work this morning and this evening.

My DH put up the tree and decorated it last night. I nearly had a heart attack! I am very proud of him, he usually just sits around and lets me do everything. I came down on him a little hard on sunday. Told him he always ruins christmas for me becuase he doesn't participate, doesn't want to go shopping, play carols, etc...he just opens presents. No wonder he loves christmas! I guess he must have listened becuase I was in for a shock when I came home last night. I felt guilty for 'blaming' him for my christmas stress, but now I feel better about it. Maybe it was something that needed to be said. He is so sweet to me, I am all mushy in love.

Pre op diet is going pretty good. I am going to try to stick to just fluids come friday. Just want to be as prepared as I can for post op.

Have a super fabulous day everyone..TTYL. Thanks again.

Yoda, you were asking about my job. I do mostly facials, amssage, waxing etc. I love my job. I really enjoy each and every day. I am very thankful for that and I think it is why I feel like I can do this. In my past life, I worked with urban land economics. Not too exciting and everyone was always mad at me or wanted something from me. It paid the bills so I could raise my boys. Now I work for money and for fun and it feels great!

kwhenrykerr - did you say shopping??? That sounds fun. I would really like to spoil myself. Any suggestions?

Argon and Green...had a big fight today with ICBC (provincial vehicle insurance). Basically they are licensed to scam...(in my opinion). Just got home so I took an ativan to ease the pain of ICBC.....just waiting for it to kick in. I usually don't take drugs, but then I asked myself why not? If it makes this time easier then who cares, it is only for the short term. Wish I could share, but I will send you happy relaxed thoughts!

3 more sleeps till I leave.

Hello everyone. I am almost all packed. We are having a storm here so I think I may take a ferry friday night insted of Sat morning just so I know that I am on the mainland and can drive to the airport.

I went out for a last supper tonight. I really took my time and tasted the food, and made sure I didn't eat all of one single thing. I even ordered cheesecake and had about 2 bites. I don't feel like I cheated, cause I didn't give in to a moment of weakness, I did this with every intention of doing it. It actually was a very good exercise for me mentally. It's like I said, OK, here we go, but before we do, here is some love. OMG, I just realized what I typed. Food=love...gonna have to process that thought for a few days. Think I might need to break out the yellow pages before this whole ordeal is over.

If you don't hear from me for a few days it is because I have left for Mexico. I will have lots of tales to tell when I get back. Thanks for all your support. I feel so confident going into this and I know a big part of that is the information and support I have recieved from you all. xox

Wish me luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
