Ok, I'm one day post op with Dr Kelly and I know tomorrow I'll have a leak test at a different hospital. The thought of me swallowing anything but Water, even something yummy, sounds awful. How much stuff do you need to drink for the test?

LOL... I should just say "no comment" and spare you, but I have to warn you. It's the nastiest tasting crap I've ever had. Luckily, I only had to do a couple sips and they keep a container near for those who puke ;)

I had to drink about 3 swallows of barium, using a straw while lying down. The liquid was very bitter. I brushed my teeth and rinsed my mouth as soon as I could. It was not as much to drink as I thought.

I didn't have a barium. I can handle barium and have many many time for cat scans. For leak test the norm the MX surgeons use is Methylene blue.. WICKEDLY NASTY! It is used because it detects differently and more precise.

I was a Dr. Kelly patient and had my last leak test done at Angeles too. It was a large gulp worth of Fluid (weird to do that when I'd been practicing sipping). It was clear and flowed like Water (I'd been expecting a chalky barium as I've had in the past)... tasted horrid but not unmanagable. Like bitter lime/citrus in my mind/memory. It was over in a moment. You've come this far, you can do it!

Also, one day post op I too could not even manage ice chips without an attitude in my gut, so I get how you're feeling today. Tomorrow is another step further into recovery!

That's awesome if its not much. I'll remember gum :) I got out of surgery about 6pm pt and already feel so much better today so I imagine tomorrow will keep getting better. Ice chips are going down well :)

Its about 2 oz maybe a bit more. (Its gastrograffin) Dr. Kelly doesn't use barium because it can cause problems if it were to leak into the body cavity. Gastrograffin would absorb. It does taste horrid. But swallow it quickly, and have the SF gum ready for when its over. U got this ;) Good luck and congrats!

Hi. Congratulations! I bet now that the surgery is over you're wondering why people worry so much about having it, right? I hope your gas and pain, if you have any, are manageable. About the leak test- don't worry about it. It tastes kind of crappy but it only lasts a few seconds. You'll be so mesmerized watching it go down your gullet and thru your stomach (what's left of it anyway-ha) that you'll forget abou the taste in a few seconds. Seriously - it's nothing to worry about. They give you the ex ray as a souvenir. You will freak when you see how small your new stomach is. Enjoy the experience.

That sounds cool! My pain has been managed with IV NSAIDS because I don't want anymore nausea and I'm feeling good. Yes, now that's it over it's nothing to worry about. I've been annoyed by burps that don't want to come out, but the pain waves from them have been few and far between. I'm not a tiny bit hungry. I hope to get some appetite by tomorrow for some soup:)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
