Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

So I decided to try an experiment and eat more calories for a few days in a row to see if maybe I was in "starvation mode" or whatever. Promptly gained back the 2 lbs that I lost last week. Swell. I am SOOOOOO discouraged right now.

Well, back down to the basement to help hubby.

Sorry that your experiment didn't go well.:cursing: It seems I am having the opposite problem. Yesterday I said SCREW IT!! and ate when I was hungry, anything I felt like (I actually had a frosty too) So I weigh myself this morning and I have lost a pound. Maybe my body needs more calories. All week I was trying so hard to limit them to 800-1200 and was starving all the time(I need another fill but can't afford one yet  ) So i KNOW I went over that yesterday and BAM! I'm down one more. Wish I had known this first thing!

No cancer!

Yay!!!!!!!!:tt2::sneaky:

We have 3 acres at Crooked River Ranch which is between Madras and Redmond. Have views of 10 mountains: from Jefferson to Bachelor. Love it there!

I know exactly where that is. My brother lives in Bend. Love it over there. There is so much to do and see. You are SO lucky to be able to live in such a gorgeous place! :smile2:

We live in Portland, but go to central Oregon once a month for a few days.

Tonight we had my daughters birthday party. She is the most beautiful girl in the world...see below for proof!:smile2:

So, let's all focus on her face...forget about the mammograms, the colon surgeries, the broken puppies, the ex-husbands, the bad neighbors, the BAD nurses, the costs of fills, being on-call (and even though I'M not, my husband is and that's just as bad), not losing a lb. this week, non-existent libido, cravings, hurt arms, etc. (because I just can't remember ALL the issues we have going on here) and just enjoy what God put on this earth...little princesses!!

Beautiful little girl!

Mini: I am riding the same train you are: gained 4 lbs since yesterday!:girl_hug::thumbs_down::sad::sad::biggrin: I have been mixing up caloric intake from 400 to 1200 calories a day. I am getting so discouraged. Hopefully, my first fill on Tuesday will help. It will, won't it??? Please tell me yes:crying:

Wouldn't it be nice if frostys were the cure for obesity? THough I don't do this all the time, it was VERY nice last night.

Chiming in re: stuff. I can't wait until we move forward with the motor home plan and get rid of all our stuff. It has taken over our lives. Seriously.

I didn't realize how bad it was until we built our "treehouse". It doesn't have stuff in it . . . just what we need to get by. And it's absolutely fine. It will be awesome to just get the "stuff" monkey off my back. My whole paycheck goes to supporting our house and our stuff. Yikes.

I can't figure it all out either Mini! It's frustrating! I started the BFL last week and just lost that .8 lbs. Then this morning I lost 3 lbs. Today is my free day and I'm trying to not overeat. With the band, you can't, but I'm trying to make better choices. I ate 1/2 burger at cheeburger cheeburger and a few onion rings, then came home and had 2 bites of cherry pie, 1 bite of a chocolate brownie. for dinner tonight, I had 2 small pieces of fish and about 5 fries. I am stuffed.

Oh, I also had a few bites of ice cream from Cold Stone. My fave is the German Choc Cake. I hope I don't gain tomorrow. I know it was supposed to be a free day from working out, but I hired a trainer! Yes me! A personal trainer for 5 sessions. I couldn't meet her until Wednesday so I decided to meet her today. She is so tiny! She probably weighs 70lbs and she's like 4-10 or shorter. But she's mighty! She did the caliper test and I am 43% fat! ARGH! I wonder what I was before I lost the 105lbs! Can you imagine? Acceptable range is 31%. I've got a way to go.

Oh damn. I want a bite of ice cream. I want a cheeseburger. I want a brownie. That all sounds amazing.

According to my fancy dancy electronic scale, I'm 55% fat. So here's the deal miss dee . . . If you have 57% bone and muscle, etc. in your body and you never build even one more ounce of muscle, your ideal weight should be 57% of what you weigh right now plus another 31% of that. For me, for example, 45% of my 195 lbs is bone and muscle, etc. . . . so approx 88 lbs. Let's say I wanted to be at 31% body fat. So another 30ish lbs would put me at a total of 118. So because my frame is really small and I have basically no muscle, I need to lose a LOT or build a TON of muscle to get down to a decent level of body fat. YOU on the other hand, are well on your way!! You should be really proud of yourself.

So in other words, I should weight around 199. You're pretty smart Mini! I have a feeling that you got the Math gene!!! I figured out my daughter's too! Her fat % is 32%. She's almost there!

I agree! A bite is usually what does it for me! If I can just have a taste of something, I'm usually good and the craving is gone. I've purchased an entire piece of cheesecake - taken one bite and drown the rest in the sink!

OK I'm trying to wrap my head around what you're saying here, and I'm going cross-eyed. Can you explain how to do the math again? Or, can you do mine??? :girl_hug: Now, granted my scale is going to be way off, because it's late and I've had ice cream AND macaroni and cheese today. But hey, it's a start. And if you tell me how to do the math, then when I get a more accurate weight and fat % in the morning, then I can do it on my own tomorrow. I'm currently 258lbs and it says 55% body fat. Oh god, I've gained at least 10lbs in the last 3 weeks since I made my appointment with Dr. K.

OK do the math Mini. I'm gonna go cry.

You know Dee, a year ago you'd probably have purchased the whole cheesecake, and not just a slice. Am I right? Is cheesecake not, like, better than sex???? :girl_hug: But seriously, way to go buying only one slice. I look forward to the drastic change in my appetite. Why oh why can't I just get banded tomorrow????

Both Dr. K and Tom think that I pulled a stitch out of my port and ripped some muscle away with it. They said it wouldn't be erosion or a slip because I still have good restriction without refluxing or throwing up. So, I think that I will take it easy with the ab work awhile and once it is feeling better, start up slowly again. I haven't been to the gym since Tuesday and the pain is slowly disappearing. The weird thing was that it was in my back as well. I think I will try to go again on Wednesday.

Hubby is good, great actually. He came home early this evening. I am shocked. But better than the hospital. He will do much better at home. Were just taking it easy and trying to keep 4 kids as calm as we can. HA!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
