Denise...how did you get the courage to run around in a bathing suit? Did you have shorts on with it? Or were you full blown out there?

The thought is mortifying to me...

OH my, me too. We are going to Orlando in a few weeks and I am sure I'll want to take a dip in the hotel pool at some point. I have had the same swimsuit for 5 years and I haven't worn it in at least 2. Not sure how it fits now, if at all. The butt is all picked up. I probably need a new one, but the idea of shopping for it is, just, well, horrible. Even though there are some really cute ones. I will need separates with a skirt or maybe boy shorts because the world does not need to see my rippling cellulite thunder thighs of doom. Oy.

Brandysmom, I saw that recently and was thinking that if I hit a plateau, I might try that vs. the other plateau buster diet I've been seeing around.

I have a swimsuit that covers me chin to ankle. Seriously. I have red hair and very fair skin plus one of my meds makes me super photosensitive. A few years ago we were going to the Caribbean and I REALLY wanted to go snorkeling. So I ordered these swimpants and shirt from some Australian company that are spf 90 or something. It's black, lycra looking pants but not so tight that they show my assorted craters, and a long sleeved royal blue shirt with a high neck made of the same fabric. I wear a regular suit under it. At first I was worried that I'd look like a total dork, but I was so much more comfortable in it than when I have to prance around in a regular suit that I ended up thoroughly enjoying myself. I decided it looks like a very chic wetsuit. I haven't worn it to the pool though. That might be kind of different.

Supposedly it is good to shrink your pouch back down. I think it is worth a try!

I tried it and found it difficult to follow. Later, I read that it's for RNY patients.

I found that returning to my pre-op diet was the best way to get back on track. It's virtually no carbs. I did lose with the pouch-test diet, but I only did it for 3 days, because it was so hard to stick to.

Good Luck Brandy! Anything to get us back on track is worth trying!

I think after TOM you'll get back to losing.

Thanks Amieru!

Don't worry about the gain. You lost 5lbs that one week and 2 lbs the next. Sometimes, we gain Water weight.

Every one did great! Don't worry if you gained a little, it happens - we gain Water weight sometimes, but it will come down next week. Stick with the basics, stay away from the enemies like, Mr. Tortilla chips, Miss Cherry Pepsi, Mr. M&M's -- (the chips are my enemies!)

Remember this is a lifestyle change.... a lifelong journey.

You're not alone!

Brandy -- It was a tankini, and I haven't looked this good in such a long time that I thought what the heck if other people can do it so can I. It was scary at first because I thought everyone was looking at me, but there were people there that shouldn't have a suit on and they did. You are smaller than me, so I say go for it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mini: my consult is 3pm Mt. time, 2pm here.

Dee: my surgery is at Crown Point; that's at the hospital in Parker, isn't it? Also, beautiful letter. I wrote one and gave it to my dad about 3 years ago (he was 79 and I was 53). Similar to yours, it recounted all those special moments with him: his teaching me to drive, throw a softball, build model cars, the two of us watching sat. morning cartoons and Yankee baseball games. The memory of the sight of his hands as they covered mine while I sat in his lap and he was teaching me to read when I was 3. I can still see his strong fingers guiding mine along the letters on the page. The effect of the letter on him was more than I expected; not a man to cry, but he did shed tears that day.

That's a wonderful story. I would cry too.

So if Dr. K is operating on me at 1 and talking to you at 3, he must be planning on my surgery going smoooooothhhhh.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
