Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I will try to make it tomorrow, but not sure. My little one has a meeting at school and I always hate to miss school events. You know they are only small once. If I don't make it please let me know about next month. And have fun:tongue:

Hi Everyone ,

I just wanted to say thank you for all your informative postings in regards to Dr.Kirshenbaum and his staff.

I had my band inserted by him on 1/23/08 and this forum made it a no brainer decision. He is an awesome doctor and the price for the band is not bad at all.

I am very shy so that is why it has taken me so long to post. I do have one question though I saw Dr. K for my post op and he said I had no food restrictions since I did not have any problems nausea. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I do feel restrictions since I do not eat half as much as I did prior to having the band but do not want to mess my band up. Did anyone else move as quickly to solids after surgery? Please help.

NUEME: I felt pretty good and moved pretty quickly onto solids. I know that every doc is different, but if Dr. K says it is ok, I know that you will be fine. Take it slow, eat small bites and of course chew, chew, chew...

Good luck and welcome to bandland, BANDITO!

I know that he is busy...we all are!! I was never told to schedule in advance and that since I was local to just call and they would "squeeze me in somewhere". No worries, I now know and will probably schedule a few in a row just to be safe. This hasn't changed my opinion of him or his staff...I just want to get to proper restriction so that I can be a more consistent loser.

Brandy: When was the last time you had your fill, weren't we in there the same day? I fill like I need another fill as well, I am hungry easliy and it seems like I can eat more. I guess I was just hoping that my loss would be a little faster. I know that I need to work on it and watch my food choices. I ended up getting the bodybugg from LA (sorry that you didn't get it), so hopfully that will help keep me a more honest.:)

Have a great time tonight and I hope to see you next time.

NUEME: I too moved to solids pretty quickly. I did have a few times where I could feel my food get stuck. I just had to remember to chew and chew a lot. Best of luck to you on this journey, keep us posted and ask all the questions you need too.:)

Hey Bahot~

I am hoping you can make it tonight! I would love to meet you!

I did have my fill the same day as you...but I know my body. I am eating more than I should, I am hungry and I feel like I paid all this money, I am ready for it to start working! :)

No worries about the body bugg, let me know if you like it...I have seen them on eBay, so maybe I will bid on one...

Great job on the weight loss!! I am down 33.5 as of this morning, but I know that it is from working out, eating way less and just plain ole' dieting (counting calories, Protein, and nothing but water). At this point, it has very little to do with restriction...I just need to be patient, I will get there.

Brandy

What do we do at RR, besides visit? I mean do we order a meal, drinks or what? I am trying to plan what to do for my kiddos for dinner and am wondering if I should eat before hand! Also, do I need to ask for a certain party that were sitting with, or do we just wait out front for everyone? Sorry for all the ???'s, but since I am new at this, I would hate to get stuck with the wrong party! HA

Can't wait to meet everyone~

Kidlings!

Greetings!

Good Morning to you!!!

Can you tell, I'm in a good mood?

I love my band!

My swelling is decreasing and I am able to drink more and more often. I have learned that I have to measure smaller portions out so that I don't drink too much too fast. I had some blended Tomato Soup and it was so yummy! I bought some cute little measuring cups. I love a gimmick. :cursing:

Anyway, this morning, I am down 21lbs. My fasting blood sugars for the last 2 weeks have been 90 or less, I'm totally off the Metformin. :)

I'm a happy camper.

See you tonight!

ARGH!

I need some suggests on what I can eat tonight at RR. I can't do the French Onion Soup because I'm trying to keep my sodium intake low.

Love,

dee~

When I first went, I had no idea who I was meeting. I told the hostess, I don't know what they look like and I only know their online names. The Marilyn saw a lost fat girl standing at the door and she came and rescued me!

We all usually order something to eat. I'll tell the hostess that if anyone comes in for Dee, she/he can direct them to our table. BUT usually we are all hanging around the front door for a bit before 7.

Can't wait to see you!

dee~

Dr. Kirshenbaum says the key here is not to throw up in that first month. You can move up in foods as you feel you can tolerate is what Paula and Dr. K told me. I hope that helps

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
