Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Congrats Woofay on the smaller sizes!!! I started at a size 24 and can now squeeze into size 18s, although the 20s are comfortable right now. I refuse to buy any more 20s though....cause I want to by a TEEN Size! :)

My weight loss has seriously slowed the last 2 months, but I know exactly why. I've been out being social and drinking too much! When I drink I tend to eat something to soak up the alcohol..BAAAAD Bandster all around!!! :-(

BUT..the upside is I'm having a blast! I just need to get my butt back in gear!

Hope you're all doing better than me! Learn from my mistakes! :D

Glad to hear you're all meeting each other....I'm jealous! But....I have a good fill here in VA and won't be out in CO for at least another few months to visit my sister.

Take care all!

Hi Kirsten. I've been a little bogged down on the weight loss as well for a couple months. I went in for my first fill last week with Dr. Brinkley. I like her, she seems to understand things well. She has the lap band herself as I'm sure you know.

Well, the first fill did not yield much restriction, if any. So, I'm looking forward to getting the next one soon. I feel like I'll be OK once I get the restriction I need. I'll let you know how it goes.

How is your restriction these days? You mention that you've been able to eat when you go out. Is that because you don't have restriction? Or just because of the types of things you've been eating? Just curious.

Talk to you later.

Hi! Happy Tuesday!

Way to go Woofay! How great is it to be two sizes smaller than the last shopping trip?

I was lucky to have a "short" friend bring me some of her clothes she hasn't been able to part with. She had Gastric bypass last June and has lost 96 pounds. Amazing the transformation! I think it has been somewhat more rapid weight loss than I am experiencing, and she is doing really well and taking her Vitamin supplements seriously. Anyway, I was sure that none of her clothes would fit, but I was pleasantly surprised that everything fit, it is just down to which ones are "my style" and what is the most flattering. I loved that all the hems are right. I told her to make a pile of other stuff she out "grows", although she is almost at goal. What a great gift!

I am going to NYC for a week June 19 - 26 for a wedding and family visit. I don't want to buy much new clothing, but my old stuff looks pretty dumpy. I figure Walmart and Kohl's should work for a couple of outfits.

Isn't it fun that we can talk about style and clothing? I made an appt for Dr. K to fill me on Thursday morning. I am not restricted. So I think another fill would help me. I wasn't scheduled until July, but with my weight loss slowed, I figure why not? At least I'll get a day a adjustment before Dr. K goes to Africa.

See you tomorrow night at 7pm. Can't wait, maybe I will wear one of my "new" outfits. Hugs,

Mark,

Glad to hear you finally got a fill! Sorry it wasn't enough though. you have the VG band right? I know those are harder to get to your sweet spot with.

I actually have decent restriction now at 3.5 out of 4ccs in my band...however, when I'm out drinking and eating, I think food goes down easier b/c of the liquids. Thus, my problem in not losing weight!

When I am focusing on what I eat and waiting an hour to drink...I definitely can feel the restriction! I can't eat much bread, chicken MUST be moist or it gets stuck...things like that!

Glad you liked Dr. Brinkley! She definitely seems to know what she's doing!

Talked with Dr. K yesterday for my consult. He didn't tell me anything new (which is a good sign that I'm prepared)! I'm satisfied that I'll be in good hands, not that it matters...I'm going to be asleep...dreaming of the industrial strength bra I will need to hold up the sagging boobs I'll have after I lose weight! Haha!

Good news too! My sister, who's coming with me, informed me that her friend who lives in the Aurora area has invited us to stay with her! I won't have to fork out even more money for the hotel! YIPEE! I'm all about cheap! It's actually a good thing that I won't be going out to eat there!

I tried to put the pictures here from last night and I just don't know what I'm doing.

Last night was great, I am so happy that some of us had a chance to meet.

Drews, I hope everything is okay, you were missed!

Anyone going to the group on Tuesday night? I might go since I have never been???

Have a GREAT DAY!!!

My left overs didn't stand a chance, I was hungry when I got home and ate most of it!!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
