Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I think a summer get together would be great. Would weekend, evening or daytime work best for everyone? I am going to the May meeting at Dr. K's office. Perhaps we can plan there. I am doing well, but need to get a meal plan together.

Machele - thanks for the Protein info. I have invested in some EAS Protein Powder that I like in soy or skim milk. Recently I added SF pudding to the mix and it was good. Then I am getting between 35 - 40 grams of protein just in the shake. I don't think I can get two of them down a day tho.

I scheduled my surgery well past the day I should of gotten the money for it. Now, I'm due to have the money a day later than when Dr. Kirshenbaum's office wants it.

I'm scared I'm going to lose my date. I'm scared that if I call them and tell them this, they'll be mad. In reality, they're probably okay with the payment being a day late. I just didn't mean to jerk them around like this.

I want this so bad... I don't want to wait longer.

But if I don't call in the next day or two and have them change my date, someone won't be able to jump right in and take my spot. 10-14 days of low carb diet needs to be established... I'm at 15 days until surgery.

I know I'll have the money... but then again, I knew I'd have it by now and I don't. We're just waiting on signing the final papers for our home refinance and they were supposed to be in and signed yesterday. If they come in tomorrow and I can get my husband out of work to sign them, then the check will be cut on Monday, the day payment is to be in. Thursday he has off and the paperwork will be in by then but that puts me at receiving the check on Tuesday.

I feel awful.

Spot - I don't know what to say, except call and let the office know. For yourself, it is better to know than wonder. You could get a promisary note from the home refinance people to show the committment will be forthcoming. You sure don't need to worry so much.

:angel:I hope that advice helps. Good luck with everything!

About a get together - I liked the idea of trying to gather before or after a meeting. i also am pretty flexible as I live in town.

Do you have a name for your band? i read on one of the web sites that people name their bands. I didn't really understand it until I thought about my band being like a hug around my stomach and I really have warm feelings towards it. So have you named yours? Might be fun to find out.:heh:

Hugs and good luck to any of you to yet be banded. I am going to the May meeting. I am committed. Who else will be there? :clap2:

Goodnight :notagree

Good morning, Spot and Dynamo~ We had some really great piles of snow come through yesterday! Seems like when we get blizzards, my internet goes down. I'm on DSL. Talk about withdrawl! But, after messing with my modem box and rebooting everything, I'm back on! Woo hoo!

Spot, Talk to Dr. K's office. My surgery was the 13th, and I paid on the 9th. So I paid 4 days before. They didn't seem to think that it was that big of a deal. And I was like you. I had to take out a home equity line of credit to pay and even though we closed on a certain day, the funds weren't available for 3 more days. My funds were available on a friday and I paid on monday. It was all very close. Just let them know!

DynamoMini~ I would love to get together to meet everyone. I think that I will try and get to the meeting in May. Did you get an email from Susan about that? How are you feeling? I wake up pretty good, but by the end of the day my "top roll" of my belly is really quite swollen and sore by the time I go to bed. And I'm not whining, because I am thrilled to have this done, but I have had a couple of bad days. Two days ago I really wanted to eat something. I have to fix dinner for everyone and I think it's worse while I am cooking for everyone. I didn't realize how much I taste and nibble while I am cooking. I actually cried. Silly girl. Then yesterday, I don't know why, but my whole gut hurt almost as bad as 2 days after surgery. Maybe I've just overdone it. Who knows. But I had to take pain meds and I haven't needed them for a while. So, there is my whining...all done. Sorry, but thanks for listening. Has anyone else had any "bad" moments? Not regrets, cuz I don't think any of us has that.

Where did everyone go? Angie, Lap Dancer, Tater...how is your healing going? I'm thinking of you! Mal...still excited? Hope to hear from ya! :typing:

Okay, well my mortgage guy called and said they needed a well Water bacteria and flow test/inspection done. So with that recent development, I swallowed hard and called Marilynn and told her what was up. She understood and wasn't upset at all that I was going to need to reschedule so close to my surgery date. She offered me a date a week later but I went for May 22nd. She also said that if I need to postpone further, that'd still be no problem.

Woofay, that's good to know that they might be able to accept payment later than 10 days before surgery. Maybe, by the grace of God I get my money before the 9th and they still have the opening, I'll see about sneaking in. I really hope to go earlier than the 22nd... it's killing me to wait longer. I'm just going to start the pre-op diet (doctor said Atkins will work beautifully) when I was originally, just in case I can get in early. I'm an old pro at Atkins anyway, lol.

*sigh* I'm bummed. I'm off to go turn in my well sample and later, I guess, change my ticker *sniff* .

Spot, I'm so sorry that you have to postpone your date. You must be heartbroken. But you'll still get it done, just a little later. And once it's done, it's done. It's crazy all the stuff they need to refi, don't you think? Hang in there, it'll go fast for you. :spider:

Thanks Woofay. And yes, the stuff they need for a refinance is awful. We even had to have some work done to our foundation before anyone would even touch us. We started this whole process back in the beginning of February and back then, the mortgage guy said it'd take less than a month to complete. Argh!

I just got off the phone with the mortgage guy though and he has the well guy coming tomorrow and he says the Water reports come in quick... so who knows, I might be able to see about getting the surgery bumped up again. I'm not holding my breath though, the guy's educated guessing has already been proven to be about 2 months off, lol.

Anita - You might want to ice if you are still swollen. I iced like a fiend the first week after and I don't have much swelling now. I sympathize with having to make dinners for others. It sucks, and does really make you realize how much random eating we all do. You might want to have your Protein Shake next to you to sip as you cook. Maybe?

A friend invited me to dinner tonight and we had salmon, one little baby round potatoe and green Beans. It was a feast after liquids. I just really chewed, chewed, chewedand everything was fine. Amazing how little was satisfying.

Spot - man, my heart goes out to you. You have to believe that you will be banded at the right time. Don't keep doing the "last supper" (I did that and put another 10 on that I had to drop) but go on the Atkins for the month. At least Dr. K is reasonable about it, some docs require Clear Liquids for two weeks before and after surgery! I couldn't believe it!

Hugs to you all and hope to see you at the May meeting!!!!

OMG I feel so awful for you! That sounds so horrible! When I saw you-- I think after the fill you were looking so GREAT! I can not even imagine going through what you went through and trying to get home. I am glad you are feeling better now. Are you on the job hunt? Are you keeping more food down now? Let us know how you are!

I am glad to hear everyone is doing so well. We had that blizzard come through here as well. I live just outside of Colorado Springs in Falcon and we were hit hard. I had no power, no Water since Tues at 1100. Finally last night about 9:30pm it came back on!! Thank God. I did break the band rules! I ate a piece of cheese pizza. Can you believe I can eat that already? Today I am back on my Atkins shake but yesterday without any power I was looking for something I could eat besides cold Soup and of course I went for the pizza. I felt so bad afterward... not pain wise just mentally. But on the good side I only at one small piece, so I guess you could say I am recovering fine! Top of my belly does get really swollen as well, and my back hurts between my shoulder blades... does anyone else have this pain? I notice the top of my stomache swelling usually after work or around 2:00 even though I have been trying to get up and walk often. About a summer get together, that sounds great. I am also going to try and come to the support group meeting in May!

I am planning on coming to the meeting in May. I just got back from seeing Dr. K. He scheduled me for my first fill on May 17th. OMG. That is a good thing I think. He says since I am able to eat regular food already, there probably isn't much of a restriction yet. Oh well. I have still been doing well around 1100 - 1200 cal per day with 50 grams of Protein.< /span>

I am working out again. Yea! 40 minutes on the EFX machine. It feels good to be active again.

Hugs to all of you - I can't wait to meet you in May. We'll have to have out B2G names on too! Yuck....yuck.

Hi Angie, I'm doing good, just don't ever want to go through that again. I am wide open again so I need a fill soon but I'm going to have to stick around here so that if that ever happens again I will have someone to take care of it. I wish that I lived closer so I could come to the support group meetings and meet everyone. As for looking for a job I don't know what to do, my old employer said that I wasn't fired that I choose to walk off the job! My HB called them when I had gotten home and said that I would have a Dr's excuse for that day and that I was given a 2 weeks notice, and then the assistant manager that I had walked out on called me at home the next evening from her house and told me that she would'nt accept my 2 week notice and that they were going to cover my hours, that's fired to me!?!? I don't know I just could'nt take anymore. Don't be hard on your self about the pizza, I did the same thing only I was about 3 weeks out. It's a scary feeling when you realize that you can eat anything, now is the time then to switch thinking and get off of your all soft foods and start hydrating between meals and then eat your solid meal and let the band do it's job. Granted I don't know if you're completly ready to do this but you should be soon. Even though our bands are not restricted much it seems that when I follow this i'm not as hungry until the next meal or snack. Take Care, Sunnysea

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
