Wow..what a ton of great info tonight....I'll know everything before I get there tomorrow!

Okay, okay, okay....now with this full liquid thing....her it goes...if something can melt and become liquid...that makes it a liquid..right?? Soooooooooo, does that mean that chocolate is a liquid? NOT that I want to pig out on any left over Easter chocolate or anything...(yes I do) I was just wondering. :decision: HA!

Hi Angie, It was me (Sunnysea) I just got home late yesterday and had quite an ordeal so I am just getting to read everyone's posts. How are you? I'm better now but my trip home was hell! My story-On Monday I had my 1st fill, it was 2.25 and that evening and the next day I didn't feel any restriction. So on Tuesday I had another fill of .9 and went out to my car and consumed 3oz. of tuna on 4 crackers with no problem, then I shopped the night away:) . At my hotel later I ate a few bites of a South Beach turkey+cheese roll-up, within minutes I had chest pain, nausea,+mega salvia for about 15 min. So I went to bed and was up at 3am to get ready to catch my flight at 6:30. The mistake I made was at 6:00 eating a few bites of egg, oh yah also I was able to drink Water before this. Well to try to make a very long story alittle shorter I went into a restroom and put my arms above my head and burped and spit, then I felt better. On the flight to Milwaukee I tried 1 sip of coffee thinking that something warm would help open me up, no go! In Milwaukee I had a long wait until my flight so I tried to lay down, well as time went I became worse and worse. I went in the restrooms only to have the stupid toilet flushing and splashing me every other second, so I had to use the sinks to spit. I was in great pain and could not keep my own saliva down, a women asked me if I was ok and I explained everything, she proceeded to rub my back and try to get me to relax, I felt that she could go but she insisted to stay by my side. This would come and go so I didn't know what to do, eventually I went into Midwest bestcare area and they called the paramedics to look at me, believe or not my blood pressure was ok but I was starting to dehydrate. Then I was feeling better for quite awhile so I took my flight back to Green bay and my husband had his sister drive him to GB so that he could drive my car+me home. I did call Dr. K when I was in Milwaukee and he said that I should find a Raideolgist to take some out but if the pain was ok I could fly to GB. On that flight it got worse and I had to use a bag to spit in, in GB we went to Walmart to get some aloe vera juice, well one sip and it only got worse. I also had been in contact with my general Dr. and headed right there hoping she could contact a Dr. to relieve this for me, she sent me to our emergency room because I was getting worse. At the ER. they took my info and sent me to wait, well soon after I started to dry heve and they finally took me in and started an IV. No one would touch me as far as an unfill, the ER Doc said he had a DR. on the phone that could help me, then he said it was Dr. Kimmerling the doc that I was orginally going to have my band with but I could not come up with the cash, and the one that would not take me for after care at $1,500 dollars for the year until I was 1 year out from surgery. I got on the phone with him and once he figured out who I was he started raging at me that I only wanted to save money by going out to Denver and look at the situation I got my self into and the bad situation I had put him into! I slammed the phone down on him and said that I would'nt be putting him in any situation! At that point i was hysterical, tired, and just plain hopeless, mind you just days before this I had walked out of my job and told the ASSistant manager that she could find someone else to kiss her ASS! So on top of all this I am unemployed. I really am a soft spoken person that lets everyone stomp on me, well i have had enough! I called Dr. K and he could not believe that no one would let him talk them through this easy procedure, the docs at Marinette did have the correct needle but the doc in Green Bay said that they did'nt. The Er doc said that in time it could cause lack of blood flow to my stomach and eventually could cause death so he talked me into driving back to GB ER and have the doc take some out. The Er in Marinette gave me something to calm me down and I was able to sleep on the hour drive to GB. I met with DR. Kimmerling and he took out 2.5 and we talked and settled things. On the day I went back to get more fill I was told that I should have eaten 1/2 of a cup of solid food after my fill so that I could tell how it was instead of the Soup and string cheese that I had eaten, so that is whyI ate the tuna and continued to eat other stuff. Looking back I probably was pretty full but it would have been ok if I hadn't eaten anything after having the stuck situation happen the night before, I just could not keep straight what I was suppose to do! On line here everywhere they say liquids for a day and then mushies for a day. I am ok now but very poor and emotionally a wreck. Sunnysea

Great pictures, Lap Dancer! You look like a pillar of strength going into surgery. You don't look nervous at all. At that point I was crying. What a baby huh! It's so cool to actually start to put faces to all the posts!

Lapdancer and Angie it was great meeting you both, I am so happy that I asked everyone if they talked on Lapbandtalk, Lapdancer you made my day getting up and giving me a big hug, lol. It was so neat to meet + talk to you both, I also met a great lady that I talked to for quite awhile on Monday after lapdancer went in for her visit, ofcourse I talked my head off to Lapdancers husband he was probably realived when I left, what can I say I have the gift of gab when i'm passionet about something like the lapband. I wasn't going to wait until I got home and then think maybe I should have asked who everyone was. Each day that I saw Dr. K I would ask him how his surgeries had went that day and he would ask me why? and I said because they are my friends from LBT! He would say good, and on Tuesday he said that it just took abit longer than usual, was this yours Lapdancer? Take care everyone, Sunnysea

My Name is Natalie, I have known and worked with Dr. Kirshenbaum and his office staff for approx 25 years. Dr. Kirshenbaum is one of the most respected General Surgeons in our area. I marketed the Lap Band procedure to Dr. Kirshenbaum 2 years ago, when he decided to do the procedure I became one of his patients. I cannot tell you how great the procedure has been for me. I have lost 80lbs and lots of inches, I have gone from a size 26 to a size 16. I could not have achieved this without the surgery. I am not on blood pressure pills anymore and my borderline diabetes is gone. For those of you that are concerned about the price I can tell you why it is so low. Dr. Kirshenaum wanted people to have the choice of having surgery here in there own country for the same price as Mexico. Physicians have to meet certain credentialing criteria to practice medicine here in the states but do they in Mexico? How would you check someones credentials there? The surgery centers where the doctor performs the surgery also have to meet strict criteria - JCAHO standards and AAA standards in order to be licensed. How would you check that at the facility in Mexico? You can go home after surgery and sleep in your own bed. It just makes good sense, if you are considering Dr. Kirshenbaum & have questions I would be happy to answer them.

YES, that would be me. My liver shrunk during detoxing but it was also FLOPPY. Sooooo it took him twice as long. But there is no pain on this end.

I have a great memory from my surgery. :clap2:

Natalie,

Thank you for the note of confidence. I will be banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum May 18th and I have only heard wonderful things about him and his staff. I have no doubts with Dr. K and his staff, my doubts are with myself and being able to follow the band rules. I am going to give it my best and hope that I don't let myself down...

AGAIN!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
