Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

I went up to Omaha for my checkup yesterday and came out great. I have lost 30% of my weight. I am still wary of getting a fill. I can't consider one until I have my face surgery next spring and since I am losing at the right rate and risk setting off my GERD if I do, they are still waiting. The fill clinic person really wanted to do one as fluids go right through with no problem. That is great and what I need, but solids stop and can get stuck and I simply cannot chow down anymore, even if I want to. I wonder if some people never get a fill and still lose are are fine.

They also doubled my Vitamin pills and added more Calcium and Vitamin D. I also have to add some tests to my next blood draw.

It's always a relief afterwords.

Today is my birthday! My body's gift to me was a two pound loss for the week. Cheap body...it could have given me a little more, but I'll take the two pounds.

Hey - happy birthday Laptastic! What a huge gift to yourself and you are almost half-way to your goal. Just think of what 62 one pound boxes of butter would look like all stacked up on the floor...that's how much fat you have lost!!!

Julie, please put me down for -2 pounds this week. Only 7 pounds to onederland...

Sweet spot! I think I'm there. I lost 3 pounds this week, down to 198.6! That means I have already surpassed my Christmas Challenge goal! I have lost 11.2 on the Challenge so far.

Loving not being obsessed with food and hungry all the time. And Onederland is great! Room for everyone, come and join me! :willy_nilly:

Happy Bday Laptastic! I had my birthday this week too, so happy for this gift of 3 pounds gone!

Keep up the good work Ladies.

I'm finally home, and just trying to lose the weight I "found" in MI. It wAs a heck of a trip. I am still tired.

My grandparents are both 92, and not in the best of health. My grandma has end stage kidney failure. I could see her declining in the 3 weeks I was there. It was quite scary to see. I don't expect her to live until our next trip back (in March) this makes me really sad, but it must be faced. My grandpa is in really bad mental state. He has Altzheimers, but he is not completely gone. In his more lucid times (though fewer and farther between every day) he knows something is wrong with him. He prays and talks to God all day (he was never particularly religious before) It must just be terrible to know you are not right. I keep telling my grandmother he has the mental capacity of a 3 year old, but she won't believe me. She gets so upset and mad when he makes messes, or doesn't do what she tells him to do. I just hope it is over for them soon. I hope that doesn't make me sound like a terrible person, but there is very little quality of life there.... my grandpa with his mental state and my grandma feeling like she is being punished for earlier misdeads by having to take care of him. I won't get too graphic here.... but let's just say it involves a lot of dirty butt wiping. (sorry if still too TMI)

On a happier note..... Happy Belated Birthday to Theresa and Gen. Hope they were great. Theresa, hope you had a fun time at the casino..... sorry I was in MI and not able to make it. Did ya win?????........

Looks like we have lots of good losses going on here. Too bad I have managed to find what everyone else lost.

My husband got me a Wii fit while we were away. Already managed to hurt myself with it. BEFORE IT WAS EVEN OUT OF THE BOX!!!!! I dropped the box on my foot. Man, was it heavy. Hopefully nothing is broken!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for the Holidays. I really need to get out and get my shopping done or there is going to be one very unhappy little girl her Christmas morning. I did manage to get her 2 Zhou Zouh hamsters, but nothing to go with them. Hopefully I will be able to find some accessories by Christmas.

Hope to see everyone soon.

I simply cannot chow down either. Not in the cards. Trust your instincts and if you are pleased where you are then stick with it. Headwork is just as important as seeing the other results including weight loss.

Today is my birthday! My body's gift to me was a two pound loss for the week. Cheap body...it could have given me a little more, but I'll take the two pounds.

Happy Birthday Girl! Today is my mother's birthday too. I bought her a non-food gift, a Van Gogh silk scarf. My gift to you is POWERFUL positive thoughts for continued success. You have brilliant blue eyes and I cannot imagine a strong woman like yourself not succeeding at what you set you mind to. Congrats on both the loss and the gain of another successful year.

Oh sweet KM, you are keeping the chart going and going on vacations and keeping your chin up for family who is doing not so good. BUt I think it is beautiful that your grandfather who was never really religious is talking to God now. Spiritual people say that as life on earth fades, some become surrounded by things in the afterlife, what they see they respond to. I just feel like that is beautiful.

Never under estimate shopping the internet. I did probably ninety percent of my shopping online. I guess the NOW factor is good to have knowing it is done. Be well friend. I am glad you are getting to make some trips north. It does one well to see family.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
