When did you dye your hair postop?

Recommended Posts

Should I wait????

Hmm, it seems like it wouldn't be a good idea to add any more stress to your hair follicles with harsh chemicals right now. I'd talk to someone who is a trained and certified hair stylist that you trust, and also talk to my doctor before I did anything. My guess is that the best bet would be one of the semi-permanent colors that don't have ammonia. Let us know what you find out!

I waited 4 months...I found it helped getting highlights and low lights to add depth, and volume. I also cut it into a short bob, which helped it look even thicker and healthier getting rid of the dead ends. I waited until I hit one of my short term goals as a reward. I did this with a lot of things...25,50,75,100...and so on of weight loss. Little rewards all the way like my hair, my nails, a massage, new clothes. It made it fun along the way. Good luck! :)

2 days, and then every 4 weeks thereafter. I'm about 3 and half months out now, and it's starting to shed, too. I decided I'm not going to have thin gray hair, just thin hair!!

My daughter is a hair stylist, I had my hair dyed 2 weeks post-op and like MichiganChic kept my regular schedule of every 4 weeks. I am 3 1/2 months post op. Just this last appointment (1 week ago) my daughter commented that my hair seemed a little thinner than usual. I typically have very thick hair. We decided to cut it short & sassy. I love it!

i am a hair dresser. I colored my hair the day before surgery and then at 3 weeks post op and then every 3 weeks after that (i do my color every 3 weeks because i can't stand the grey.)

My professional advice is to stick to color that is Ammonia free. I would stay away from High Lights and Perms for a while because that does change the integrity of the hair. I don't see anything wrong with coloring your hair at 4 months out!

If you are not taking any extra supplements consider taking Biotin. I have been taking Biotin since 3 months pre-op and i have not been shedding more then the usual.

We are supposed to lose around 100 Strands of hair per day.

Thank you for this post!! I'm still pre-op and getting my hair done right before my surgery.

I'm not grey, but I'm vain! lol! I love my hair & color and have been stressing over this more the fear of Post op pain!

I never stopped coloring my hair. If you can find a salon that uses Redken Chromatics hair color, I recommend that. It's ammonia free permanent color that leaves your hair healhier than before you colored it.

I'm 3 months today and hair has started to shed. I'm taking Biotin since post-opt week 2 and Shampoo using "fall fight" by garnier from the supermarket. I got high lights end of month 1 to make sure it wouldnt interfere w Hair loss and so far so good.

Honestly if you are doing some kind of box dye its probably going to matter VERY LITTLE. Just do not bleach it at this point. You are probably losing enough hair without doing that too it as well.

That is exactly how I feel! I'm still in the pre-op research phase, and I'm wondering how severe the Hair loss will be...

I had highlights done the week before surgery. Then I think I waited probably four months. I had her add more blond and, to me, it helps to hide the thinning. You know, with hair and scalp being the same color.. LOL Maybe it's just my perception of it. (Which really IS all that matters, right?!) I had highlights added again the beginning of March as we were heading to Puerto Rico for a week.

As for Hair loss, my hair has always been fine and thin. I didn't really even start "shedding" until December and it lasted a few weeks. Am I bald? Nope. In fact, I have quite a bit of regrowth now. Maybe I'm lucky?? Who knows. I do take 10,000 mcg of Biotin a day plus I shoot for 80 grams of Protein daily.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
