I'm going into surgery in about 20 min...totally freaked out and just trying not to think about it. Had the band 2008, removed in 2011. My weight is 217, bmi 36. One thing I didn't have to do was a pre-op diet which was really nice as that would have been just one more thing to worry about. Hopefully I'll be back on here tomorrow saying everything went great! Good luck!

Had my surgery May 6th. Probably going to stay at the hospital one more night. I had severe naseau and quite a bit of pain..walking and sipping. I don't regret it but this was a lot harder than I imagined.

I had surgery on the 6th, getting ready to leave the hospital now. My surgery was 8pm so I wasn't awake until 11pm Monday night. I had a lot of gas pain in my upper abdomen so I spent the majority of the night walking. I didn't ask for a lot of pain Meds because it burned when it went into my IV and the pain wasn't too bad. I was really dehydrated by the time they were getting the IV set up so it took a few tries, not too many bruises though. Tuesday morning I had a bit of nausea and was dry heaving so the nurse gave me Meds for it. I've had a slight cough, but its not so bad. The drain site hurts the most, it's pretty constant, but not bad enough that I would take Meds. My abs are really sore and hurts the most when I get up and lay down. I've been slacking on liquids so I'm working on that, just sticking to Water for now. They gave me Gatorade, but after a sip or two I get instant diarrhea, not fun. When I get to the hotel I'll try some chicken broth. Im glad I came to Mexico, is way I ha 2 nights stay at the hospital and I'll see the surgeon again on Thursday night before flying home. My US surgeon was going to release me same day, I can't imagine having to go thru the first 2 days on my own.

Good luck to everyone having their surgery soon, and I hope everyone else is having a smooth recovery.

Hi everyone!! I'm to be sleeved next Tuesday (May 14th) I'm more nervous than excited but this is what I have to do and I have faith in God. I don't know exactly what I weigh now because I have been on my pre-op diet and my clothes are a little big. With that being said last I weighed, I weighed 320 which is my highest ever ever. My goal weight is 175. The lowest I have ever been in my adult life is 190 (I'm currently 25). My insurance approved it thank God but I have a high deductible. My support system is my husband and my sisters as well as my mother even though my mother thinks I am having a hernia repair. I'm deciding to keep this private it's just a personal choice.. Wish me luck!

MAY 22nd sleever here I am 240 right now which is my highest I have a goal weight of 150. I just started the first day of my pre-op diet it's not so bad thought the taste of the shakes were going to be gross but not so bad. I also decided to quit smoking as well I figured since I can't go munching on Snacks now would be a good time to do it. :) I am super excited and scared about the surgery but I know I can do it!! I wish everyone the best in there journey, I love reading all of these inspiring stories. So thank you for that !!! :D

Go ahead and do it. You will not regret having your last meal with a small desert. I did and I felt so good. Now I lost 12 pounds pre op. Now that I have the surgery I have no appetite and once I get hungry I drink Water and is gone. You wont probably feel the urge to eat desert after surgery so I said go ahead and do it and enjoy your desert. Good luck to you on your surgery walk a lot after surgery that really help you.

Glad to hear that my fellow May 6 sleevers are doing pretty good...I have been blessed so far with no major issues...still have a little gas but it's bearable. That day of surgery and during the night I used the pain pump some, but no pain meds since I've been home...still on clear liquid diet until tomorrow...the Isopure Protein Drinks aren't that bad tasting, but it's difficult to get all the liquids in when I can only sip a little at a time....my stomach is making noises all of the time--is anybody else experiencing that? Also, I thought I would feel no hunger...I am not sure if I am feeilng real hunger or just "head" hunger...I think I am still in the mourning stage; i.e., mourning the loss of food

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
