Pigging out before LIQUID DIET?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am new to this website. I am having my sleeve on March 12th. I was supposed to do a 3 week presurgery diet but my surgeon got the flu and I got to do it another 2 weeks. I have cheated a some but I have lost 25 lbs thus far. I am worried about my liver not being shrunk enough. Does anyone have any words of encouragement?

Great job! You have done well and should be proud of yourself!

I have too much weight to lose before surgery so I did 3 months of an 800 calorie VLCD instead of food funerals... If I didn't have to lose all this weight pre-surgery I'm still not sure I would have been pigging out though. I've NEVER been one to eat a lot right before starting a diet because I just think that every additional pound I put on, is just ONE MORE that has to come off.

So you are ended up only having to do two weeks, or they added two weeks making it five weeks? I think 25 lbs is great! And unless they do an ultrasound they won't know how big your liver is until they cut you open.

I have to lose a total of 75 lbs before having surgery. I have lost 60 and scheduled for surgery for April 8th. I still have 15 lbs to go. I was put on a 2 and 1 diet a lot like Medifast. I have been on it since Nov. 12th I start my pre-opt diet Monday the 11th. I've been eating the same things, missing out on Breakfast, for too long.. LOL. So I am taking this weekend to eat Breakfast, and a few foods I love like pizza lol.

I give you props for sticking to your diet.

Ended up doing 5 weeks total but I've not been so good this last week. Got 5 days left to be good.

You do have to be careful after about the 6 mth mark .... I am 7 mth out and real food like meat, veggies and fruit fill me up quick but junk like crackers and chips I can still eat more of, less than I could eat before. So I am still working of my self control and food addiction.... The sleeve definitely helps with this but you have to make changes yourself too :)

I am so glad I found this post!! I went to the informational meeting last week and go to the surgeon Wednesday. I know he does a 2 week pre op liquid diet and it's so reassuring to me to hear thoughts like my own. Not that you guys are having them, but that I'm not alone in having them and that there IS help and support!! I've cut down on soda since I went to the meeting, trying to get more Water in. But I just keep thinking in the back of my head, EAT WHAT YOU CAN NOW!!! So far, I've done ok with not overdoing it because I've got to do a 3 month Dr supervised diet for my insurance to approve me. This forum I think is going to save my life!!!!

Hi and we will be here to support you! It sounds like you are doing great! Just know this surgery does NOT mean the end of eating! The pre op diet is just temporary to get your body ready for this surgery.. And yes do get rid of that soda, sooner than later, it will make it easier after surgery not to still have cravings for the taste.

Good luck

Laura

Okay I slipped up again' date=' was craving Taco Casa... Large Dr Peoper with 3 refills, 4 soft tacos and one meat burrito later I'm feeling like crap once again. So ready for the sleeve...

Can anyone tell me on how the hunger issue is with the sleeve? And the cravings?[/quote']

I've had no hunger since surgery - I'm in week 9 post-op.

Today and yesterday I did okay' date=' 30 gram protien shake for Breakfast, 2 premier Protein shakes for lunch, but a huge chicken fajita dinner. I'm getting better at this, and hopefully I'll be ready for the mandated liquid diet starting March 13th!

I'm shooting for a full liquid diet tomorrow, hopefully I can do it![/quote']

Progress, not perfection - good job buddy!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
