January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys!

Just checkin in! My goal for this week are to

1. drink at least 64 ounces of water/crystal light

2. exercise at least 4 times this week

3. keep on the south beach

4. remember to take my Vitamins, supplements

I weigh in on Friday and I am scared because I have no restriction and have been eating very well, but still following south beach.

You are supposed to eat till you are satisfied on the beach and that is what I have been doing, but.... Hopefully I am at least maintaining!!!

I get a fill Feb. 17th, so I want to maintain, maybe lose a few more till then!!!

How are we all doing??

Me, not feeling so well today. Has nothing to do with surgical feeling bad; I feel cold/flu like. Yesterday I went to the supermarket - that was horrible! But stupid me decided to go to Sam's club with my Mom for a couple of things - another dumb move. I feel horrible today. Not even a desire for food today, everything tastes horrible to me - all the Soups just seems nasty or spoiled; though I know they're not. AND...I took a 4 hour nap in the middle of the day; I never do that! I feel a bit naseous, called the surgeons nurse, and she told me that there was nothing that she could do for me - no Rx to call in or anything. I'm not happy with that - there should be a pill or suppository or something. She told me to just 'hang in there'. I feel like calling back, but don't have the strength to be honest.

Sorry to be Debbie Downer. I just didn't expect to feel like crap on top of the surgery stuff. And that is doing well. Steri Strips are still on - almost a week later; how long do they stay on???

Thanks for the check in. I need Help!!!! I was banded on January 15th so I was banded 3 weeks ago. First week I did liquids, second week I did heavy liquids and the third week I did a half of week of mushy and then by Thursday I needed some real food because I was starving so I had beef brisket.

At this point, I can eat anything and everything and not feel full. I know a lot of people are having the same issue but my question is is it possible to stretch your stomach at this point? I try to only eat when I am hungry but when I do, I can eat a lot. Last night I had two pieces of Bertuccis pizza and I still wasn't full.

I am not too concerned about not taking off the weight right now because I know I am healing. I just want to make sure I am not going to damage anything by eating too much. I never get sick to my stomach or feel like throwing up, which is what I heard happens if you do eat to much.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You should call them back. There is a suppository they can give you. My doctor ordered it before I even had the surgery so in case I did become naseous.

Hope you feel better soon.

I feel for you - I SURVIVED on Dramamine tablets for 4 days after my surgery. I have never been that nauseated in my whole life! They are very small and I didn't have any trouble swallowing them. I have no doubt I would have gotten dehydrated were it not for those little life savers. Hope you feel better soon . . .

Well I'm back at work today. I was a little upset this morning when I stepped on the scale and to find that I was up 1 lb from last Monday. I haven't been weighing and had my DH hide my scales, but then I though, maybe I should weigh once per week. Anyhow, wasn't good! I figure my body is just getting used to food now since I was on liquids until last Thursday. I wont let it get me down!

Hi Tonya ~

I am glad to hear you felt well enough to go back to work today.

Don't let the one pound get you down. I was so stupid - I bought new scales about 2 weeks post-op, and they showed me 10 pounds heavier than my others - the ones that I have been using all along. :omg: Needless to say - I couldn't get the new ones out of my house fast enough, and my mood (and truth be known, probably my family too!) definately suffered because of them.

I have to remember . . . this is a journey, not a race! I go for my first fill on Thursday.

I was wondering the same thing. Do we even have a poutch if we are not filled yet and have no more restriction?

I do eat a lot less than I used to, but I am probably having about 1 cup and 1/4 at a time.

My understanding is that at this point, many of us don't actually have that "upper stomach" or pouch since we don't have any restriction yet. We won't have a pouch until we get a fill. So if there isn't a pouch, there's nothing to stretch out. The food is going straight through to the regular stomach, and hence we are not feeling full. Of course, it wouldn't hurt to get your doctor's opinion on this.

Slate,

You're right - so I called back. I told them I want something. So, they're going to call the doctor. Sometimes the Nurses 'play' like doctors and give the commands. But they're so not wanting us to vomit; I would think they'd be all over it,giving me any RX for it that I want!

So I'm waiting for him to call me. We'll see.

Thanks for the reply. I hear so much about stretching the pouch that I'm so nervous. I can't wait for my first fill (March 8th). I want to feel like I did the first week I had the band. Oh well, it's a precess.

Good for you. Never let the nurses tell you what you should be doing. The docs are paid a lot of money and they need to be there when you have a question.

I was told not to eat over 1 cup of food. The way it was told to me, hard Proteins like brisket goes into your stomach, it churns to digest it and that is what's hard on your band and the healing process. Hopefully someone else could explain it more. I had chicken fried steak today with steamed vegies, but only had about 6 bites of each. Personally I would think it would be better to eat smaller amounts more often than to eat two peices of pizza at one time (and might I add I'm a little jealous....would kill for pizza right now!).

I was banded January 18, have been on solid foods for 3 days. The scales are driving me crazy!!!! Clothes are fitting better a lot better, rings are loose, watch twists on my arm, people can't beleive how much better I look.......all good things! Problem is, the scales say I'm gaining. Is this happening to anyone else and can anyone explain why a person can lose so many inches but gain weight? Don't even know what to tell as a loss total, it fluctuates from 14 - 20 pounds on any given day!

Checking in...

I went back to work today. It was actually kinda nice. I thought I was going to miss sitting on my ass day in and day out... LOL! But, it felt good to move around. I do stress testing at a hospital, so I'm on my feet about 75% of the day. Luckily my back did not act up at all! The best part is -- my scrubs are HUGE on me! I need new pants ASAP! I wanted to hold out a little longer, but I looked pretty ridiculous today, so I'm going to try to find some cheapy pants to get me through. 20 more pounds and I'm getting a few new scrub "outfits". And for anyone who thinks scrubs are forgiving... forgettaboutit! They are the worst -- no stretch at all. I am so happy to have room in them again!

5jacks - get off the scale, babe!! It'll just make you nuts! Give yourself a break. As long as the clothes fit better and the jewelry is loose, you have nothing to worry about. The body is a complex machine, and weight loss is even more complicated. The weight changes you are seeing are most likely due to Fluid fluctation. It happens to everyone -- most just don't notice because they don't weigh very often.

Maria

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
