March 7th in Tijuana with Drs. Carbrera/Valenzula...

I was extremely upbeat and excited..... UNTIL..... the dreaded pre-op Protein drinks.... ugghhhhh... feel like I'm a zombie with crazy thoughts of "why am I doing this?????" BUT my sis had hers done in May and she looks and feels awesome, so I do know it will be worth it!

You got this! We're lucky, at least Cabrera has a comparatively generous pre-op diet allowing a salad and a portion of lean protein!

KatinFl....I'm a big spreadsheet person too. I'm scheduled for march 29 and have a spreadsheet telling me when to stop caffeine, stop taking Motrin, start preop diet, take laxative and when to start clears...oh, and I'm already packed, which is totally not like me

But you didn't miss anything. I'm thinking Dr. Aceves may best suit me. Not that Dr. Lopez/ALM isn't a great option. I think I need my hand held a lot.

You will figure it out. You are well informed from this site. You will know when your ready. You know what you want and need.

Actually it makes me feel a lot better. I am so happy for those who make their choice and never seem to waiver. Mildly envious too. :-)

I guess I'm feeling a little melancholy.

Amanda Rae

I'd be shocked if most people don't waiver, at least at ONE point, in this process. Whether it's about the Dr or going to Mexico or who to take with them (if anyone) or if this is the right choice...I think most of us waiver. It's a huge choice and for *me, that questioning is healthy. It's what is keeping me in check about whether or not I'm looking at this as a "fix" or a tool to create a total life change.

You'll get there, with a Dr and making the decisions that are right for you. Just hang in there!

Okay this may seem stupid.......

I have surgery on Thursday March 14th, I will arrive Wednesday the 13th, but what day should I fly back home? I thought it should be Monday, is that correct?

Thanks!! I am trying to book my airline tickets tonight, just confusing myself I guess!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
