March into Formation March Sleevers! Roll Call...

Recommended Posts

Well it is day 2 and I am doing pretty well. Not a lot of gas pain just a bit. I realized I have to drink much slower than before. I have been nauseated today but have choked it back both times. Not a fan of vomiting.

How are all the March Sleevers doing?

Fan-freaking-tastic! Had the best recovery EVER... Have a titanium lined sleeve that LOVES all the food. Drinking all the fluids I want. Tried gently steamed broccoli last night and my tummy loved it.. Ate kofta meatloaf made with beef last night and my tummy loved it.. Started nuts this week.. guess what? tummy loves it. I don't do wheat so I haven't tried bread, but I did try some tortilla chips with my cottage cheese and I found it to be very filling and not a problem at all.. though it's too much calories to do on a regular basis. Unfortunately I also tried some Peanut Butter cups.. and yea, my tummy loved it.. I kind of wish it didn't.. this is where the willpower comes in I guess. :P

I struggle with eating slow because my tummy does not send me any signals that it's not ok to eat fast, so I really have to work hard at eating slow. I'm currently consuming 700-900 calories a day and anticipate I'll be up to around 1000 where I want to stay during most of this process.

Weight loss wise I'm stuck in a big stall. I was 276 at two weeks out and I'm currently at 279 at four and a half weeks out.... according to my fancy scale, I have about 7 pounds more Water now than when I was at 276 so that's somewhat comforting. I'm not worried. I'll keep going as I am for another month.. then I'll try ultra-low carbing it for a while.

How are all the March Sleevers doing?

Sleeved March 18 . Doing well. Down 49 pounds since March 1st . Did a lot of work in my yard the past two weekends. I can now breathe when I bend over to pull weeds or pick something up . Amazing! I'm averaging 700-900 calories a day. Protein around 80 grams. I'm still on pureed foods. My stomach is tolerating everything I've given it so far, but I'm not rushing things. This weekend I may try adventuring beyond purees. I also may start taking Miralax tomorrow. Without going into detail, I've had a little trouble with regularity.

I went alone and met several others on my floor. you wont feel weird..bring a Teddy Bear or a favorite stuffed animal. Yes i'm still a kid at heart and it was comforting to me. Also, there is a phone you are able to use to call your family that is free and they can call you as well. We all share it on the floor. They have wi-fi too. It went fairly quickly and i actually enjoy my alone time, it was completely fine so don't worry about that. I'm now in the hotel room...the Marriott, a big king bed and very clean. Free wi-fi too at hotel is part of the deal, 2 waters, 3 broths & 2 Popsicles a day. I really don't feel hungry at all or thirsty now but i know i need to get my fluids in. They give you a few bottles of Gatorade and some small waters along with your meds and gauze to replace your bandages when you leave..at least this is what they did for me and i went with Ready 4 a Change..the girls were phenomenal! They all made me feel right at home. I'll need to go downstairs in the hotel to buy more Water since they want us to drink 64oz a day. BTW-be sure to keep asking for juice, Water etc when you have your 1st leak test and it's all clear to start ice chips & sipping liquids. They don't bring it to you continuously so just keep asking and get 2 small cups at least. Bring an empty water bottle & they'll fill it up for you so you can have it on hand and add Mio or crystal light to it if you want.

1 more week and you'll be a sleever! It will all be fine!! Oh and ask the dr if he'll take a picture of your stomach that was removed. Dr. Garcia did and had it sitting next to my lapband..looked like a big sausage and a little freaky to see it. He only does it if you ask so don't worry if you don't want to see it.

Best of luck!!!

~Sarah

Sarah,

I never did thank you for the advice...it was all right on! I think we've replied to each other on the FB page but I just put 2 &2 together and realized it was you. I think you were sleeved a little over a week before me...I was actually on the 21st. I went alone, while my hubby took the kids to grandmas house in calif. I did however ask him to come stay with me at the hotel. Glad I did...I would've been bored.

How are you doing now?

Ara

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
