If this is me u speaking of...my doctor have me on soft foods after my 2weeks. Yes I messed up on eating only the meat of the plain buffalo wings. So I have been eating my Soups and my shakes...and for dinner I ate a grilled tilapia. When I return back to Louisiana' date=' I will be trying tuna. I amon vacation with my family , who do not know about my surgery. Yes I will do better and I truly appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. Not sure but the spider technique I had done , my doctor said I would heal faster than the regular technique...but I will be careful from now on.[/quote']

You'll heal better on the outside hun...but your stomach was still cut just like everyone elses so it will take a good six weeks to be fully healed.

I had major complications from a leak so I am always a finger wagger when it comes to pushing a new sleeve. I don't want you or anyone else to go through what I did.

@nurseGrace I was referring to you. I always like the way you respond to people. You're straightforward and honest but not harsh. It's refreshing and helpful to this site.

Thanks, I try.

The sleeve is only a tool' date=' which is why it is ideal to measure your intake with a scale, measuring cups, etc. for the first 3-4 months. Did your doctor or nutritionist give you a guide of how to measure and how much you should take it? Many of us use myfitnesspal app to track calories (you must measure to get accurate counts) and how many grams of Protein, carbs, sugars, Fiber, etc. broken down. There is much information on this site about the ideal breakdown in the different phases after surgery.

The lightheaded and weakness may be dehydration and possible low electrolytes. Quite common in the first month. Make sure you aim for 64-80oz of fluids (protein drinks/shakes, milks, broths, etc. all count).

As for the volume you're eating, I always measured so I didn't try those amounts to see "if I could do it." Try not to push your sleeve past any point of comfort. As soon as you feel full - stop eating for at least 10-15 min and only eat/drink what your diet allows. Eating too fast will often cause slimes (throwing up, mostly saliva). But if anything goes down easily it's the yogurts, puddings, soft foods. You may find when you progress to approved solids, you won't be able to eat as much.[/quote']

Thanks for the response! My NUT told me what I am allowed to eat at this point, but never really got into measurements. I figured it would be easy on my own, but trying to figure out my sleeve is harder than I thought. I do use Myfitnesspal which is great and let's me keep track of my Protein and make sure my sugar and carbs are low. Since I wrote this post, I have been making it a point to measure a smaller amount for my Soup and noticed I don't feel as crummy afterwards. I guess I'm just confused on when to quit eating. When my sleeve starts making a bunch of noise while I'm eating, is that a sign that I've had enough? Or should I just have a few bites or have a 1/2 cup. I don't ever really notice anything until it's too late and I realize that I ate too much. Thank you again!

I find these questions confusing....did your doctor not tell you an amount to eat at one sitting? If he didn't...gad what a horrible doctor! You should not be "listening" to your stomach to tell you that it's full. It's still healing and won't respond properly. You should NOT be sitting down to eat an entire can of Soup at this point. If you didn't understand your docs orders call right away this is dangerous.

I don't understand what I asked that was confusing. I was asking if the amounts that I was eating was normal or if it was too much. I've read people being able to eat the same amount and some people only being able to eat as little as 2 tablespoons. I don't normally sit down and eat a full can of soup. It happened once over a half or so period. My NUT, not my doctor (who is a great doctor by the way and one of the top in Michigan) is the one that gives me my nutrition info. She didn't specifically say what amounts I need to be eating for which liquids. Hence, why I was confused and reached out on here to see what I should do.

You are eating too fast and too much. SLOW down put your spoon/ fork down after every bite. You have to measure out all the food you eat. Start with a quarter cup of food first. Your tummy is healing right now and the nerves are not all back to normal. You could do yourself harm by eating so much' date=' be careful. Good Luck[/quote']

Thanks for the response! I have been measuring since reading these posts and am feeling much better afterwards.

Maybe it gives the sleeve more healing time. Hope that's it!

I think that the more time you spend on here, you will see that the people who are extremely successful meaning, the people who got to goal, the people who have lost 150 + pounds Do measure and weigh, and you should as well because thats the only way to KNOW you are eating the correct amount. 3 or 4oz is standard for most meals and thats what you should probably shoot for. I'm not really that "into it" either, but its something that only takes a second and it goes a loooong way in keeping you on track.

I mean the NUT never went into detail on the measurements - not me. I have no problem measuring and see how it is extremely helpful. Thank you! : )

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
