Travelling for Banding - Packing List

Recommended Posts

I found some of these items on some old posts in January, 2006. I'm travelling from Canada to Mexico for my banding, leaving on Saturday :biggrin1: . Can anyone recommend anything else that I should pack to take with me? :help: I'll be away for one week. I know there are exhaustive lists for what you need once you get home, but I'm curious if there's anything I'm missing while in "travel status". Thanks!

PACKING LIST - (so far)

heating pad

flexible ice pack

liquid tylenol (adult strength)

chewable or liquid gas-x

comfy clothes (loose waisted)

sports bra

slip on shoes

Milk of Magnesia

I can't think of anything else right off the bat, but want to remind you to pack lightly. You will be hauling that suitcase all over with you, and on the return trip, you do not want any excess weight to have to deal with. They have new chewable Tylenol, that disolve into very fine powder, they might be lighter than the liquid, and easier to transport. Being in chewable form, you could get them through the carry-on restrictions as well. I did not take a heating pad, they told me they had them at the hospital if I needed one, and I didn't figure I could plug it in on the plane!!! Personally I just took too much...too many clothes, I was in a hospital gown most of the time! I should have lightened my load as much as possible!

I hope you have a safe trip, and that your surgery goes well. Check in with us when you get back and let us know how it went. It sounds like you are well prepared!!!

Soon you will be a full fledged bandster!!!

I'd take a small pillow if you will riding back from hospital. You hold it on your tummy to keep things stable. We have one here in Sacramento that gets passed around and we all sign it after we use it.

That's all I can think of that's not on your list. :(

Thanks Kat & Jcby

It may sound like I'm prepared but I don't feel like it! :phanvan I'm sure there will be something I'll forget, but as long as it's my hairbrush and not the gas-x, I'll be ok...bad hair, but ok. :(

I'm can't wait to get on the plane and start my journey to "the other side"...the lighter side! I'll be sure to post once I have my surgery on Monday.

Be sure to take a few prescription pain killers. I had mine done by Dr. Ortiz, too, and the pain meds he had didn't do the trick once I was back at the hotel. In fact, of the four of us who became banding friends, we agreed that was the one thing we wish we had brought with us.

Be sure to bring them in their original bottle to avoid problems at the border, though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
