Started 'Couch to 5k today' Anyone keen?

Recommended Posts

I'm not sure I could do the couch to 5k and circuit training in between. I usually walk the days that I don't run but circuit training would be to much. Your doing way better than me. Keep up the good work.

I don't do a heavy circuit training and I only do it for about 35 minutes. I just know that I need to work on my muscles hoping to help the flabby skin a tiny little bit. ;-)

Thanks for the encouragement!

I just want to post a BIG thank you to fiddleman and butterthebean. You two are so helpful and informative for us beginners. I really enjoy reading every post and response you give. It is always a nugget of info I store away in my memory and use.

THANK YOU to everyone else here as well. Your all gems!!

This is by far and away my favorite all time thread on VST.

And for me, running has got to be the single biggest achievement since losing the weight. I can't imagine where I'd be without it. The C25K program really helped. And I was certainly inspired by the running vets that came before me like Massindex, PDXMan and others.

Finished W5D1 today. Still completing the workout and then walking back, so getting 60 min of exercise a day. How is everyone else doing?

This is the first week in a long time (surgery was in Jan) that I am excited about weighing in. My weekly weigh day is on Thursday. This week I came up with my birthday (8/3) challenge to stay on program and get at least 30 min of exercise, 64ou Water, log all food, and get over 60g of Protein. I can't control my weight loss though, so I don't like setting weight goals, but I can do the things that I know will help me lose weight. I was at 199 (yeah onederland!) last week. Based on my weekly averages I will maybe reach 195 by 8/3. I haven't been that low in 20 years.

Finished w1d2 and went 2.6 k instead of 2.5! I also figured out that for the app I have, you can't have your iPhone switch on silent if you want to hear the coach. I usually keep my phone on silent and couldn't figure out why it wasn't working last time.

I love this thread too because we aren't just passively waiting for the surgery to work, we are taking an active role. Not that others aren't. It just makes me happy to be doing something besides eating to plan.

Today was my first weigh in day after starting my birthday challenge and holy moly I lost 4 pounds and am down to 195!!! I exceeded all my goals for the week (64ou Water, 60+g Protein, 30min+ exercise, and log all food. It's amazing what happens when you stay on your program! I've lost 70 pounds from when I started preop and 78 pounds from my highest weight in Oct '12. I'm only 20 pounds from goal! I don't normally set weight lost by a certain date goals, but my birthday is in 9 days. I'd like to get to 190 by then, but based on my averages, 193 is more realistic.

Planning on doing W5D2 today if the rains clear off.

Does anyone else run on consecutive days? Do you recommend it or not? I've never been able to in the past because of soreness, but I haven't been sore this week since I started running every day.

Wow! You are an inspiration for me. I like your goals too. I never looked at it that way. Have always focused on the weight. Thanks for that insight.

That's awesome! I haven't been tracking how far I'm going if I run outside, but I go the same route for every run and I'm going farther every time I run. It's awesome to have these small accomplishments because they add up over time.

W1D3 done! I promise I won't post after every single day, but I'm just so happy I'm doing this. I went 2.7 km in 30 minutes this time. I have settled in walking at 5.0 kph (3.1 mph) and jogging at 7 kph (4.4 mph). When I did this before, I think I was walking at 3 mph and running at 6 mph, so I would like to increase the running speed a bit more. Even still, I won't finish at 5K in 30 minutes. I may not ever get there, because I'm only 4'11" with short legs and a long torso. Walking faster than I am walking now feels REALLY fast to me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
