Week 5 D2 done and in the books. Wasn't bad and was a good workout. The PF is much better' date=' going to see what othotics are out there to add some cushion to the heel. Get through week 6 going to start looking at the schedule for a 5k. My beautiful daughter ran one last weekend with a time of 19:11. I know I can't catch her as my PR was around 30 minutes. I'm shooting for somewhere around 40 since that was 7 or 8 years ago. Also gotta start running on real pavement as soon as the PF clears up a bit more. Maybe I can get over to the high school and run on the track, not has hard as pavement.[/quote']

Trails in a park are also gentler on your joints. 19 minute 5k is pretty darn good for your daughter.

Trying to get my motivation again to be ready for the 5K walk on Saturday. Walked a lot at Disney as 2 of my grandkids were in their school choir that sang Friday at Downtown Disney. Hip is bothering me so will get an adjustment after we get back to Michigan. Missed a week of exercising when we were getting ready for my mom's funeral and we were driving back and forth most days. Anyway, heading back to Michigan starting tomorrow.

I'm now a week gallbladder post-op. See the Dr tomorrow to get the stitches out and hoping he will release me to normal activities in a couple weeks. Started walking this morn and hope to get back on my C25K program then. Starting over but not giving up!

W5 D3 done. Twenty minutes at a full run, got me just shy of 2.5 miles. Never have been able to do that, even when I was running in my skinnier days. Gotta get off the treadmill and onto the road though. I many repeat this one, just for endurance building.

Bought my first pair of running shoes this weekend (New Balance- I have wide Fred Flintstone feet). Did day one, week one of C2K today. Didn't quite finish so will be repeating it tomorrow or Friday. I can't believe I am running by choice, no one is chasing me with an axe like in a horror movie. :D

Just remember, you only have to be faster than the slowest person to escape zombies! :)

Ok so yesterday was the first time I couldn't complete an exercise. I was doing week 10 day 2 of couch to 10k and I was supposed to run 15 mins walk 1 min repeat three times. I could not get myself to do the last 15 min run. I even tried taking a longer walking break and still couldn't do it. I'm trying again tomorrow evening but if I can't do it should I repeat the previous week or just keep trying?

Good job at doing the c210k program (the first here?)! Just like the c25k program you can repeat any day or any week that you feel is necessary. One thing you can try is to eat more carbs before and during run to avoid "the bonk." Your muscles are probably depleted of glycogen post 30 min. Energy squares work great from nuts.com to satisfy, but a handful of almonds will work too.

If you try the same workout twice and can't do it, it might not be a bad idea to back up to a previous day.....just to give your body a bit of extra rest. Then you'll blow right past that sticking point.

My 5k is Sat. Disappointed that I will be walking it instead of running but, it's more than I've ever done before. Walked a 19 minute mile outside yesterday which is good for me. Hope to do the 5k in an hour but will see. Nervous but excited!!! Our son in law hurt his calf so won't be running or walking this time.

Aren't u recovering from a hip injury and the doc recommended that u walk instead of run? Let yourself up a little, and Celebrate the fact that despite all of the adversity and loss u have faced recently u r still going out and participating in a 5k. It sounds like ur looking forward to the event. Enjoy urself and have a great time! ;)

Great job Carol, doesn't matter about the time, it matters that you got out there and did it, and you finished it. Awesome!!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
