Texarkana Bandsters

Glo, I've had to have some out of alomost every fill. I do sip liquids for a day or two after I've had trouble with being too tight. You get use to that "weird" feeling eventually. If you try SMALL and SLOW bites of regular food and you're still having trouble, do call and talk to Deb or Betty about it. I've never had trouble after they've take some out after a day of liquids. It helps to relax too. I've found that stress is my biggest "tightener" when I'm getting sick a lot and if I take a minute and CALM DOWN, it reallly helps.

Chuckles, there are times for support group meetings, and times for seminars. The Texarkana support grp meets the 2nd Mon. of each month. Tonight, Tues. is one of the seminars.

Glo, hope you are better. Try to sip on high Protein, the protein is essential. The tired and weak feeling should get better with it. Have some sf hot chocolate. The milk will help with the protein count. If you aren't better call Deb. Lo2us might advise you on high protein stuff, she is good at that. Take care.

Teresa, you are right about being hard to slow down and eat. I am sure with your job and you being on the go it makes it harder. Just have to figure out a way to master it. You may just have time to eat less at a meal if your time is limited, then eat another small meal later. Hang in there. I have trouble eating slow when I am really hungry, even if I have time. We all have something to work on. I think I am getting a little better at it. I go back for a fill on the 11th. I am hoping this one will be the "sweet spot."

Well, I made a 3rd trip back to get just a smidge more taken out. Guess what???? I had lost 5 #'s  since Monday. I reached "onederland". I feel like ME now. Thanks everyone for your help. Mrs. Betty was so caring and Ms. Debbie gave me hugs. To all that wants to know : Mrs. Betty likes Betty Boop.

Chuckles, they don't do fills for Mexico banded patients. I have a friend in TXARK that went to Mexico to get her band and she has to go the Dr. Kathleen Querry....I think that's her name. She's somewhere a little bit further in Texas. I think you can find her on the lap.com site under surgeons or something like that.

Hi chuckles. I talked to Dr. K. about the fills in Mex. one time. The liability is too great too assume if something goes wrong because of the surgery. Lot of people go there. I think there is a thread on here somewhere for Mx bandsters. You might want to check that out. Personally I wouldn't do it. I want to be close to my doc if something goes haywire. But then again, I am a worry wort. lol If you choose to do that just be sure you have your after care doctor lined up for any medical attention you might need (other than fills), before hand. Those doctors may have some recomendations who to use here. You could check that out on their sites. When are you planning on the surgery? Good luck.

Glo, glad you are better. You had three unfills? Wow! What size band do you have, the small? I have the medium.

Good morning,

Yep, I feel like the old "new" me. LOL

Sugarbear, I had one (1/2) unfill on Monday evening after I got the fill

Monday morning and then I went back yesterday and he did a small unfill. I

don't know what size band I have.

Lisa, it was the most weirdest feeling I've ever experienced. :) and believe me I looked just like that smiley face. Everyone was so nice about things. I know that I'm such a baby (55yrs old) and was crying to Lou Ann all the way. I don't know about everyone else, but I think we have the most considering, passionate doctors and staff ever. :frown:

Gloharmar, I agree. I haven't ever had to go back...yet. But I know several that have and they have all been treated well that I know of. I have seen both doctors and both have always been nice to me. Another thing, if you need to ask a question and say so, they are very nice to answer. I like that, as I am sure everyone else does. Sometimes I just forget. Just write a reminder note and take it in with you, that is...for those of you who are forgetful like me. I think I am the granny of this bunch, so most aren't as forgetful as me. lol. So glad you are better.

Dawn welcome to Bandland!!!!!!!!! Glad you did so well. Remember to keep walking and moving to get rid of that air. Take good care of yourself and follow the post-op instructions and diet. This is the beginning of a whole new healthier life.

Bling, welcome! The people on here used Dr. Rachel Keillin and Dr. Ron Hekier. They work as a team and are from Precision Surgery in Texarkana, Texas. You can go to the noscales.com site or pswecare.com I think you will get some good info there. I think the cost is around 15 or 15 thousand if you are self-pay. If you have insurance it will vary. Different one pay differently. You will have to contact your insurance or PS can do that for you if you decide to have surgery. I believe I can speak for most people on here, they are great there. That is how I feel, anyway.

I was banded by Dr. Heiker and Keilin 10 months ago. I have done well up until about 4 weeks ago. I have developed terrible reflux. I am taking Prilosec 2 times a day. I also seem to be much more prone to yeast infections and urinary tract infections. I know this is personal stuff I'm sharing but I figured why not ask my friends who live with the band too. Has anyone else had problems with any of these items? I go back for a follow up appt next week. By the way, I haven't had a fill in over 6 months.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
